cost of student loans Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Discuss the following issue, and talk about how it can be fixed and what can and should be done.

The cost of student loans is rising and the total debt in the US for student loans is at 1 Trillion, which is higher than credit card debt. Politicians are not doing anything to fix this issue and it is never talked about in their campaigns as well. The student loan debt is a ticking bomb that needs to be addressed by the government. Moreover, the federal loan cap for students is expected to be lowered to keep loans under control. While that might be a good thing, it is also bad for private colleges that rely on those loans to operate. A solution needs to be implemented to help lower the national student debt and also a balance between federal loan cap. Colleges are reducing financial aid access to students, which raises the strain on family budget, and those who are living alone are cornered even more.

A new federal program called IBR, or Income-Based Repayment is designed to help students pay down their loans based on their income. However, what if a student is unable to find a job after their 6 month grace period ends? What will the student do then? What factors need to be looked at when applying for a loan? Should the student be forced to not go to a top-choice school due to the burden of rising tuition and no access to financial aid? What if a student has a high GPA, but is still unable to gain entry to the school of choice due to the cost? Our government wants the students of this country to continue education because they are the future, yet it never brings up the topic of how support will be given to these striving students who have an immense potential to do good for the future generation and make an impact on our economy that may very well strengthen, and improve our way of life in the long haul.

The following are film terms that describe many of the rhetorical devices used in film—in other words, these terms describe the rhetorical tools that a film uses to communicate the experience and purpose of scenes to the audience, whether it be to create a feeling or an idea, or to convey information or understanding, or a combination of the former, etc.

Everything that appears before the camera, and how it is arranged, is considered a distinct rhetorical device which works to communicate something to the audience, including:

Props: Beyond Setting or Set, any physical object placed in a scene.

Quality of Acting : Includes tone of voice, facial expressions, body language, etc.

Costumes: Refers to the actual clothing and accessories the actors are dressed in.

Lighting: The use of and quality of light and/or lack of light to convey a mood or idea or feeling (see the definition, for example, of Chiaroscuro lighting under Cinematography).

Space: Refers to the physical space between actors, or the space created through Set or Props to convey openness, for example, or claustrophobia, or intimacy.

Setting and sets: Refer to the location or the construction of a location where a scene is filmed.
 Set: The physical elements that are constructed or arranged to create a sense of place.
 Setting: The time and place of a play or screenplay.

Sequence: A series of scenes or shots unified by a shared action or motif.

Shot: A single stream of images, uninterrupted by editing.

Framing: Cinema is an art of selection. The edges of the image create a “frame” that includes or excludes aspects of what occurs in front of the camera.
 Angle of Framing: The position of the camera or point of view in relation to the subject being shown. Seen from above, the subject would be shot from a “high angle”; from below, it would be depicted from a “low angle.”
 Point of View Shot: A shot placed approximately where a character’s eyes would be, showing what the character would see.
 Long Shot, Medium long shot, Medium close up, Close up, Extreme close up: Indicates how large or close the objects or characters seem to be.
 Full shot: Reveals the character’s entire body in the frame.
 Tracking shot: the entire point of view moves, on tracks or a dolly, following, for instance, a walking figure.
 Pan shot: the point of view pivots from left to right, or vice versa, but without changing its vertical axis.
 Crane shot: the point of view films an outdoor scene from high above.

Editing: How different shots are cut together.
 Cutting: Changing from one image to another; a version of this linkage is sometimes referred to as montage (see below).
 Crosscutting: Editing that alternates shots of two or more lines of action occurring in different places, usually simultaneously.
 Shot reverse shot: One character shown looking at another character (often off-screen) and then the other character looking back at the first character.
 Establishing shot: Distant framing that show spatial relations between important figures, objects, and setting. Establishes a certain location or area.
 Montage: A specific kind of editing in which objects and figures are linked in a variety of creative or unexpected ways. Usually this kind of edition aims to generate certain effects or ideas.

Cinematography: How the shot is recorded photographically; choices made with lighting and movement when recording photographic images.
 Camera Movement:
o Zoom Shot: a shot that goes from framing at a distance to framing up close (From a long shot to a close up, for example)
o Hand-held shot: A shot filmed from the shoulder of an cameraperson, usually creating the subjective perspective of an individual.
 Focus: The quality/sharpness of the image; produced by the type of lens used and the distance between the camera and the object being filmed.
o Shallow focus: Only on plane of the image is in focus.
o Deep focus: Most things in the frame are in focus.
 Key lighting: The central source of artificial light on a scene or subject. High-key scenes are entirely lit by this source; low-key scenes have very little artificial lighting.
 Chiaroscuro lighting: The composition of light and dark in an image or picture.

Music: Specific songs played during a scene, or an instrumental arrangement, sometimes called a score.

Dialogue: Beyond the Quality of Acting, the scripted words the actors actually say to each other or to themselves.

Sound effects: Any number of uses of sound other than music or dialogue.

Special effects: A term used to describe a range of technological additions, such as computer graphics, to the film to manipulate or alter what has been filmed.

Food culture and innovation Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Question 1 sample answer:

Currently I live at home with my mother who does all the cooking. Therefore I have had little opportunity to improve my cooking skills so rely on my mother to provide me with all my meals. Fortunately she is cooks a traditional Greek diet which research shows is generally high in vitamins, minerals and fibre (Smith et al., 2005). One concern with this traditional diet is that it can be lower in calcium (James and Fisher, 2003) so I may be slightly lacking in this nutrient. If I began cooking for myself I would rely on processed, convenience foods as I have no experience cooking. These foods would cause my diet to become much higher in salt, sugar and saturated fat (Heart Foundation, 2007). Intake of vegetables would probably be low: research by Hamer, Willet and Brown (2009) shows that students who cook consume more fruits and vegetables.

AMERICAN GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Listed below are the concepts important to the third module. They all relate to the concept of public administration—the structures and processes of administration and management of public organizations and the discipline of public administration. The focus is on understanding these through the context of the local level of government. Develop a definition for each concept—a few sentences that capture important aspects of the concept. Then develop an example of the concept in regard to public administration in California. Start with the textbook on public administration you chose for the course and review the lectures and handouts provided for the module, and then expand to other resources as needed.

This can be either an individual or group exercise. Describe which in the document. Develop a WORD document or work directly in Bb and submit the assignment by Sunday, August 8th at 11:59pm. You will need to use this to study for the exam.

Organization Theory Merit System
POSDCORB Patronage
Incrementalism Distributive Policy
Union Redistributive Policy
Administrative law Regulatory Policy
Accounting Clientele
Auditing Entitlement programs
Performance Appraisal Pendleton Act
Federal Civil Service Reform Act 1978

EXAMPLE: Council-Manager Government
The mayoral form of government was a common approach until the last half of the Twentieth Century. In the council-manager form of government the power and authority rests with the city council who delegates certain responsibilities to the City Manager. A mayor may still exist but uses what power he or she has in ceremonial functions and to support the actions of others. In Bakersfield we have a council-manager form of government. The City Manager is a public administrator.

EXERCISES

Only two choices are available for this module and both are required. These are individual assignments, but you may discuss the assignments and share sources and resources in your discussion groups or on the Discussion Board. All exercises in this module are to be completed by Sunday, August 8th at 11:59pm. Neither of these projects can be completed at the last minute, so start early.

EXERCISE ONE: The Code of Ethics —required 25 Points

The discipline of public administration is itself managed by professionals that practice public administration and may belong to a professional organization—The American Society for Public Administration (ASPA). The members of this organization have developed and affirm a Code of Ethics with five principles. Locate the ASPA Code of Ethics and review it.

The faculty and other administrators at CSUB are all state employees, professionals with a responsibility to promote these principles. With a focus on one of the five principles develop an Issue Paper identifying an issue related to professional practice that is addressed by this principle. Explain your concern and suggest a course of action. This is to be an example of civic involvement and service learning in a professional context. How do you attempt to make change within an organization in a constructive manner—focus on the principle and how the practice of the principle could be strengthened and be specific. You will need to recommend at least 3 alternative actions. I will be asking you to actually submit this.

Issue papers have a specific format. Be sure to locate the example and the grading rubric for directions.

EXERCISE TWO: Evaluation of Job Announcements —required 25 Points

The term middle management refers to a collection of positions in an organization in the middle of the organization. The levels with an asterisk * are considered middle management:
.
Entry level or line staff positions
*Supervisory positions
*Middle Management positions
*Administrative positions (except at the top)
Elected or Appointed Positions

Locate 5 job announcements from local government organizations for middle management positions. Choose one and find a comparable position in a for profit and a nonprofit organization. Compare and contrast the three job announcements on the following characteristics (please include the announcements):

Purpose of the Organization
Explanation of the position responsibilities
Application process
Education needed
Experience needed
Salary
Benefits

If you could only apply for one position based on the announcements, which position would you choose and why? The example and rubric will also be helpful in this assignment.

Accounting technology project Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

ACCT326 Course Project

The project will demonstrate your comprehension of accounting systems and your ability to effectively communicate in writing.

Assume you are a CPA with a small local practice in a major metropolitan area. You have three professional employees, all relatively new CPAs (recent graduates from UMUC), and an experienced office manager. In the past, your practice consists primarily of tax and write-up work, but you want to expand the practice. Based upon your desires to expand the practice, you have found a new client, a growing homeowners’ association consisting of 150 homeowners, who is in the process of merging with four other homeowner associations within the next 6 months (which will increase the number of homeowners to 650). A part of the merger deal, your client will also oversee & manage the additional 500 homeowners; therefore, you must be prepared to handle this as part of your deal with the new client. The new client is expecting you and your firm to perform the following services:

1. Billing – Each quarter you have to send each homeowner an itemized bill. Dues are $50 per month ($150 per quarter). Late fees are 1 percent per month of the unpaid balance. The bills are mailed the first day of the last month of the quarter. Payment is due by the end of the quarter.
2. Collection – You rent a post office box and will receive the checks there. You are responsible for depositing the checks (you have opened a checking account for the association).
3. Payments – You write about five checks a month. Besides your own monthly fee, there are monthly checks to a lawn maintenance company and a refuse removal company. There are also checks written for taxes, postage, supplies, and the like.
4. Reporting – You are responsible for reporting on all collections, all checks written, outstanding homeowners’ balances, and quarterly financial statements.
5. Tax – You are responsible for preparing the association’s federal and state tax returns.
6. Advisory – You are responsible for advising the board on an as-needed basis, especially in the areas of budgeting, purchasing, and investment.

Your firm is excited by this opportunity because it is a way to expand your firm’s practice (by offering this type of service to other homeowner associations) as well as adding additional staff. In term of scope, for this specific opportunity, you are only required to automate the billing and collections services; however, the client is very interested in having automation in other areas. If you decide to automate additional areas (such as payments & reporting), you must be able to demonstrate the benefits for doing this; however, if you decide not to, you must clearly describe the process for handling these areas from a manual perspective. You will assume that the tax preparation will be done via a PC-based tax program that your firm already has in place.

Required: Using the methodology developed in this course, document and illustrate the system from an automated and manual function viewpoint. As part of your documentation, you will need to identify the specific system requirements (whether they are automated or no) in the areas of inputs, outputs, and controls for each of the service areas (for your paper, they will be known as business areas) that you are contracted to perform. This analysis will include you providing a mock-up of some sample documents and reports. Your finish product will be a paper & a PowerPoint presentation (a summary of the paper), based upon the following outline.

1. Executive Summary
2. Introduction
o Purpose of New System
3. Proposed System Requirements
o Billing
o Input Requirements
o Output Requirements
o Control Requirements
o Collection
o Input Requirements
o Output Requirements
o Control Requirements
o Payments
o Input Requirements
o Output Requirements
o Control Requirements
o Financial Reporting
o Input Requirements
o Output Requirements
o Control Requirements
o Tax
o Input Requirements
o Output Requirements
o Control Requirements
o Others
o Input Requirements
o Output Requirements
o Control Requirements
4. Proposed Manual Functions
5. Make or Buy Decision
6. Challenges to Automation
7. Appendix

Listed below is a summary of each section, including projected page lengths.

Paper Guidelines
• Section I – Executive Summary: In this section, you will provide an executive summary of Section II – VI. Your summary should be limited to 1 page.
• Section II – Introduction: In this section, you will provide narrative regarding the current business problem and how automation may or may not address the problem. This section should be between 1 – 2 pages.
• Section III – System Requirements: In this section, you will document the specific requirements (input, output) required for each of the respective business areas (collections, payments, etc.). As part of each business area, you should identify what data (at the field level) you would need to collect and well as what reports (including what data should appear on the reports) to support transactional processing for each business area. This will be the biggest section of your paper and there is no page limit. As you compose this section, play close attention to the following items:
o When you specify the input data requirements, you will need to specify the actual data element (such as homeowner name, homeowner address) and what the data element refers to (such as the full name of the homeowner, the address at which the homeowner resides at). You can list these elements in a table.
o For the output requirements, you simply just need to identify the respective data element from the input (no need to recap the description).
o For control requirements, you will need to identify 3 controls that need to be implemented to secure the business area. You will need to explain the control in some sort of degree.
• Section IV – Manual Functions: In this section, you will identify and discuss those business / accounting functions that are required that can not be automated and explain why. This section should be between 1 – 2 pages long.
• Section V – Recommendation: Make or Buy Decision: In this section, you will discuss whether it makes sense to purchase a system (QuickBooks, MS Dynamics Great Plains, and Peachtree) to handle this or to develop this system from scratch, using tools such as Microsoft Office (Excel/Access). In developing your recommendation, you should explain the various options, the relative strengths & weaknesses, and recommend an option. Using the material from the textbook, you will develop a recommended migration plan (aka, system development life cycle) and migration strategy (parallel, phase, etc.). This section should a minimum of 5 pages
• Section VI – Concerns: Challenges to Automation: In this section, you will identify and discuss the challenges to developing and maintaining this system. This section should be 2 pages long.
• Appendix: In this section, you will provide a mock-up of two sample forms; two sample reports; and two sample financial statements.

Presentation Guidelines
• Introduction: Summary of Section II – not to exceed 2 slides
• System Requirements: Summary of Section III – not to exceed 2 slides for each area (billing, collection, etc.)
• Manual Functions: Summary of Section IV – not to exceed 2 slides
• Recommendation – Make or Buy Decision: Summary of Section V – not to exceed 4 slides
• Concerns – Challenges to Automation: Summary of Section VI – not to exceed 2 slides

Your grade for this project will be based on the quality of both content and presentation, considering the following:

• Discussion of all required points related to the outline above.
• Ability to apply concepts from this course in order to design a solution.
• Ability to conduct the appropriate analysis based upon the limited information that has been provided.
• The creativeness of your solution.
• Formatting considerations, such as
o Well-written and free of grammatical and typographical errors
o Professional, neat appearance
o Ability to use specific formatting guidelines (as listed below)

In terms of formatting guidelines, you can rely on the APA writing style or you can follow the below guidelines:
• Inclusion of an appropriate title page & table of contents.
• Use of double-spacing for all text.
• Use of standard margins (1”) throughout the paper.
• Use of standard font and font size (12 point).
• Appropriate usage of page numbering on all pages excluding title page & tables of contents.
• Appropriate use of headings.
• Appropriate use of footnotes, if citing references.

Reminder:
• This is an individual project and not a group project. You are not allowed to consult current and former ACCT326 / 328 students regarding how they would develop a solution. Therefore, the solution presented must be your own recommended solution.
• The only outside research required is related to the selection of a software solution (Peachtree, QuickBooks, MS Dynamics Great Plains, MS Office ).
• Your ACCT326 textbook is a guide to help you; however, the textbook will not provide you with answers to the specifics that this assignment calls for.
• You should be able to begin working on this assignment after we have completed Chapters 4 – 8.

Note- I will be completing the power point based on the paper. Please include the two reports/forms required as appendices
