2. A couple in your congregation has been told by their doctor that the child that
they are expecting will be severely deformed and disabled. The child will not be
expected to live for any length of time outside of the womb. He doctor has
strongly recommended that the couple terminate the pregnancy. They are very
distraught and in doubt as to what to do. How would you counsel them?
3. Your church council has called a meeting to discuss a difficult situation in your
congregation. One of your youth workers has decided to live together with a
young woman and has no immediate plans to marry her. The church council
wishes to dismiss him from his voluntary role as youth leader in the church. They
want you to discuss the issue with him. How would you counsel him?
4. One of your church members has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
The illness has not progressed significantly, so the person is well aware of the
inevitable consequences of the disease. The person is severely depressed and
wishes to end their life. The spouse is also distraught and feels helpless in
relationship to the diagnosis but also feeling enormous grief in anticipation of the
impending loss of their spouse. How would you counsel each of them?
You should interact critically and reflectively with both the course
literature and if relevant with other appropriate sources. When you write
your paper, make sure you incorporate proper structure, grammar, form and
style, referencing, general appearance etc. Note the importance of giving
adequate references and including a Bibliography. Be aware of strict
