Petrie’s Electronics needs to improve its marketing and customer retention by increasing customer loyalty. The marketing department is in need of a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. Upper management has selected No Customer Escapes as the top Information Technology project this year.
1. In Week 5, we move into the third phase of the system development life cycle (SDLC), System Design. In the System Design phase, we must complete two important activities: designing the human interface and designing databases. Once we have our design complete, we can move to the final phase of the SDLC, Implementation and Operation, which will be covered in Week 6.
2. In order to finalize our design, we need to understand the process and formatting guidelines for creating forms, reports, web pages, and dialogue diagrams.
3. We will answer the Petrie’s Electronics Case Questions on pages 270?271. The main deliverable is to evaluate and redesign the usability of the customer account area web page (PE Figure 8-1, page 271), and create the Order History Page following the guidelines from the chapter.

b. Read the Petrie’s case study at the end of Chapters 8 and 9 to add to what we learned in previous weeks.
c. Be sure to update the customer accounts area web page and Order History web page using Visio or any other MS Office product.

Review your answers to these questions, and add any additional needed relations to the document in Figure 9-1.
Study your answer to Question 1. Verify that the relations you say represent the Petrie’s Electronics database are in third normal form. If they are, explain why. If they are not, change them so that they are.
The E-R diagram you developed in questions in the Petrie’s Electronics Case at the end of Chapter 7 should have shown minimum cardinalities on both ends of each relationship. Are minimum cardinalities represented in some way in the relations in your answer to Question 2? If not, how are minimum cardinalities enforced in the database?
Using your answer to Question 2, select data types, formats, and lengths for each attribute of each relation. Use the data types and formats supported by Microsoft Access. What data type should be used for nonintelligent primary keys?
