The aims of the investigation:

To show that work at the Scientific Center of Kuwait actually teaches people how to improve their English literacy and have subsequent effects on the verbal expression of employees even in their native language.

The ideas underpinning the study:

I’d like to examine how learning a new language can change how a person thinks. I think this depends on a few things like how a person learns a language and how involved a person is with that language. Dealing with the people who are native speakers of the language you’re learning could be the best way to absorb, understand, and live the language. I will touch on the ethnography of communication too. It is interesting to know how people think before and after they learn a new language and how it affects the way they think and communicate with other people.

The methods used and reasons for choosing them:

I will be interviewing employees at the Scientific Center and ask them some common questions about their level of English before they entered the workplace. I will also include all native English speakers and any people who had a high level of English before getting a job at TSCK. The people who I am really interested in are the ones who had no English experience or had low English skills before joining TSCK.

The interview will include the following questions:
Before joining TSCK, would you say you were fluent in English?
Would you say your English is now better than when you first joined TSCK?
How did you learn English before joining TSCK?
Do you have any native English-speaking family members?
Would you say your English now is good enough to interact with foreigners?
Would you say you’re fluent in English now?
Do you think you will become even better in English because of your job here?
Do you think that learning English has affected how you communicate in your native language?

I will also be observing the selected people on the spot and document my findings. I will be looking for how they’re actually communicating with each other and whether the results from the observations support the answers to the earlier questions that people will have answered by then.
