Discuss the Civil Rights Movement in the Deep South from the book “My Soul is Rested” By Howell Raines custom essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Please send order to email percyleng@yahoo.com
Use microsoft office

FORMAT:
MUST BE IN ESSAY FORMAT; EIGHT (8) FULL PAGE MINIMUM. Failure to comply with the 8 full page minimum requirement will automatically result in a lowered grade.
Essay must be typed, double-spaced only throughout the paper. No “creative” spacing will be accepted. To begin a new paragraph, simply indent. Do not use any folders or covers for your paper, simply staple the pages together.
Font Size – NO LARGER THAN 12 Point (**this is an example of 12 point/Times New Roman font**).
Citations – you MUST use an acceptable format for citing sources; i.e., APA, MLA, footnotes, endnotes, or parenthetical are ALL acceptable. Failure to cite sources of information used in your paper, whether directly quoted or paraphrased, is plagiarism, which is unacceptable, and will significantly lower your grade and could result in a grade of “O/F”! All work submitted must be your original work!
Sources – In addition to the book, My Soul Is Rested, you may also include information from videos shown in class, reading assignments, and other sources, such as websites EXCEPT “WIKIPEDIA”- WHICH IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE SOURCE! Cite all sources used, including My Soul Is Rested, in a “Works Cited” page. The “Works Cited” page is NOT included in the 8 full page minimum.
Maintain consistency throughout your paper; i.e., use the same margins as well as the same font and font size throughout. The same is true for citation style. If you use footnotes, then use footnotes throughout.

ASSIGNMENT: Whenever the Civil Rights Movement of the 1980s is mentioned, two names usually come to mind: Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks. However, as Howell Raines has illustrated, there were many lesser known individuals who played a part in the movement.

In a 8 FULL PAGE MINIMUM ESSAY, you are to focus on these “lesser known” individuals and respond to ALL of the following:
Introduction – begin with a thesis statement and a brief summary of the book. This should not be more than 2-3 paragraphs in length.

Discuss the Civil Rights Movement in the Deep South from the perspective of at least TWO (2) of the following segments of society: (include names of individuals associated with each of the following)
Students (such as members of SNCC and SDS)
Lawyers and law enforcement officers
News reporters
Black activists/organizers
Government officials or politicians (either local, state, or federal)
White anti-Civil Rights activists

In addition, discuss the perspectives of both men and women in the movement. What part did gender play in the Civil Rights Movement? Did the fact one was a man or a woman impact how individuals were treated by members of the various Civil Rights organizers, politicians, law enforcement officers, or news reporters? Provide evidence, including a discussion of specific individuals, to support your position!

Based on the participant’s accounts, what were the “successes” and “failures” of the Civil
Rights movement? Was the outcome what the individuals who shared their stories expected? Explain in detail.

**Please note: you MUST provide evidence to support your answers; i.e., the “voices” of the participants in the Civil Rights Movement. In order to get the maximum points possible, facts (quotes/evidence from the book or other sources) are required in order to support your position and must be provided and properly cited**

Project management case study custom essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

SITUATION: After the Pegasus Project fell apart (Thermodyne Case) in February, you have been hired by Mr. Webber as Pegasus project manager. As part of your new job, you are responsible for developing the project recovery plan. The project requires the integration of many activities across functional lines and subcontractors, including Product Development, Testing, Production and Marketing. Although the project is in deep trouble right now, some progress had been made over the past six month and Thermodyne management is determined to complete the project. Mr. Webber informs you that 30 team members are now assigned full-time to this project. Some experts had been hired recently who assessed the technical progress on the project and determined that it is feasible to complete the Pegasus project within the next 12 months and within a budget of $1M. The formal kick-off for the project re-start is scheduled for May 16.
Based on various meetings with key personnel of the new Pegasus team, you can determine the following building blocks of the project:
The project is broken into four major team efforts, each requiring approximately equal resources: (1) Product development led by Ralph has been started on April 5, and is committed to be finished by October 31. The product development includes 7 interrelated activity groups: R&D, concept design, mechanical design, electrical design, software development, environmental permitting, and integration; (2) Prototyping led by Kate, to be started on August 10 and finished by January 31; (3) Field Testing led by Kim, with activities scheduled to start on January 15, 2010 and to be completed by March 25, 2010, and (4) Pilot Production, scheduled to start on November 15 and to be completed by April 30, 2010. Except for team 1, all other major teams organized their work into six task categories.
YOUR ASSIGNMENT: From the information that you have gathered so far you have been asked to develop a project summary plan for the newly restructured Pegasus Project, documented in standard format. Data given are not “perfect” (similar to real world situation). Make any assumptions necessary to develop your plan.
Preparation/homework before starting your assignment:
1. Read the relevant chapters on project definition in your textbook and workbook
2. Complete the Project Definition Exercise (Workshop 1-A) in your blue Workbook, Section 3, starting on page 10 (solutions are included).

Question from The secrect life of bees” by sue monk kidd custom essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Here are the questions:

NOTE: Read the entire novel before answering any of the worksheet questions. The page numbers are intended to direct your attention to areas in the novel where you might find textual citations to support your responses.

KIDD, SECRET LIFE OF BEES DAY #1 (1-66)
1. Choose one descriptive passage that you think implies more than it says. Write down the passage, the page number and what you have inferred from the sentence. (Note: To infer is to draw a conclusion or make a deduction based on facts or indications.)
2. CAUSALITY
Arguing about why something came to be is essentially an exercise in CAUSE-AND- EFFECT reasoning…. Cause and effect answers the question “Why did it happen?” Answering the WHY question often involves trying to persuade others that our hypothesis about WHY something happened is a plausible, if not an incontrovertible one (Corbett)
A. When T. Ray found out…He…
B. When Rosaleen found out…She…
C. When Lily found out…She…
3. Find one passage that you think has a humorous tone. Remember that if the sentence has tone, there will be a difference between what the author is saying and what the author is meaning. Write the sentence and the page number, and then comment on what the difference between what is said and what is meant and what that difference implies.
4. List the contents of the stapled paper bag Lily finds in the attic (13). What conclusions does Lily draw about her mother after examining these possessions? How do the items help her “absorb all [T. Ray’s] meanness” (24)?
5. How does the jar of bees function as a metaphor for Lily’s situation?
6. What does Rosaleen’s made-up religion reveal about her?
7. On page 20, Lily hears the television newscaster announce, “‘Today, July second, 1964… the president of the United States signed the Civil Rights Act into law in the East room of the White House…” What is the Civil Rights Act? How does it indirectly lead to Rosaleen’s arrest for “‘Assault, theft, and disturbing the peace’” (33)?
KIDD DAY #2 (67-135)
1. In chapter four and five the reader is introduced to the Boatwright sisters and their home. Find passages that provide a physical description of the sisters, the family dwelling and the honey house. What do these passages reveal about the Boatwright family culture?
2. On page 73, the reader is introduced to the May’s wailing wall when August says,
“‘Oh, May, honey, you go on out to the wall and finish your cry.’” Examine other passages that discuss the wall (80, 95, 101, 97, 173, 182,187, 195) and come to some conclusions regarding the purpose of the wall and its relevance to the larger story.
3. Briefly summarize the story of the “young nun named Beatrix who loved Mary”(91). Why does August tell the story to Lily? What does Lily’s misunderstanding of August’s intent reveal about her? (See also page 108 and 287.)
4. Explain the connection between the story August tells about “Our Lady of Chains” and the role the Daughters of Mary come to play in Lily’s life.
KIDD DAY #3 (136-213)
1. Chapter eight opens with an epigraph from The Queen Must Die: And Other Affairs of Bees and Men:
Honeybees depend not only on physical contact with the colony, but also require its social companionship and support. Isolate a honeybee from her sisters and she will soon die.
Explain how the epigraph introduces and underscores the major themes of the chapter.
2. What connection can you made between the “black Madonna of Breznichar in Bohemia”(139), Mrs. Boatwright’s prayer cards (139), Our Lady of Chains, and the “The mother of thousands” (149)?
3. When Lily found out her mother had her mother once slept the honey house, she…
4. When May found out Zach had been arrested, she…
KIDD DAY #4 (214-302)
1. How does Lily’s knowledge of the past help her move from idealization of Deborah to forgiveness, and acceptance?
2. In the final chapter of the novel, August explains to Lily that “‘[o]ur lady is not some magical being out there somewhere, like a fairy godmother. She’s not the statue in the parlor. She’s something inside of you”(288). Cite specific dialogue and/or behavior that supports the assertion that that Lily, Zach, Rosaleen and June have found that “something inside.”

How does your current management of chronic conditions support clients to self manage? custom essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Chronic disease/illness is a condition that is usually permanent or lasts a long time. Although it may not be immediately life threatening, it may get worse over time. It may cause permanent damage/changes to the body. One thing for certain, these illnesses place substantial burdens on the public healthcare system, economic status, quality of life of the individual, family and the community.
There is a plethora of self-management programs underway in Australia now. There is much enthusiasm, but there seems to be many definitions as to what a chronic illness self-management plan is and the elements it contains.
There has been a significant increase in disease management initiatives and services in both the public and private sectors over the last few years. Self-management is a simple concept with many models or components. These models include behaviour change, health risk assessments, telephone or online coaching, outreach visits, case management or disease specific programs to name but a few. These services occur in a range of settings such as hospitals, community health, private health funds, call centres, work place and home environments and general practice (Australian Disease Management Association, Submission Summary, Disease Management).
General practice has, for the most part, based its chronic disease management on a clinical/medical model, all about numbers and normal target ranges and is reactive in its approach. This approach is very impersonal and has little consideration to the patients’ needs/goals, which may or may not be relevant to their chronic condition. I have learnt through self-management training that a patients’ goal may not reflect their chronic illness and that any goal set by a patient is an “important part of their optimal wellness”. General practice needs to consider implementing a proactive approach, keeping the patient as healthy as possible rather than being reactive and treating the patient when they present with illness.
Clinical pathways for patient care and goals have a significant presence in our healthcare system, but these goals are never set by the patient. I am a chronic disease care coordinator. As a care coordinator I provide patient education to enhance knowledge so patients can better self manage their chronic illness. I am part of the Closing the Gap Program – Indigenous Chronic Disease. I have had training in Indigenous health, cultural awareness and community awareness/promotion and chronic illness self management. I have had health coaching training and I feel that this is more orientated to the coach rather than the patient. I am implementing the Flinders Program as I have successfully completed the two-day workshop. I encourage patients to self-manage, to achieve the goals that they have set, but I also want them to as stated in Tschannen-Moran (2010) “become confident as to their ability to set new goals in the future to handle challenges when they arise”.
Indigenous specific interagency referrals play a pivotal role in providing culturally appropriate care. Providing spiritual and cultural needs and developing respect and trust with an indigenous patient are all the ingredients for the beginnings of a journey of chronic illness self-management.
Self-management programs may improve the health outcomes in some Indigenous and non-Indigenous patients with some chronic disease/s, but are these self-management programs optimal in design? How do we design an optimal self-management program that is successful in managing chronic illness? Through research, study and implementation of the self-management programs available, we may one day have that optimal design

The Devil and Tom Walker custom essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

The midterm for this course requires a little brainstorming and then the writing of an essay in which you offer specific examples from the literature we have read to support your thesis about the aspects of the American character as it is presented in the literature we have studied so far.

Your first task is to make a list of the attributes and deficits of character that have been presented in this literature.

When we read The Devil and Tom Walker you were asked to look at the direct characterization and the indirect characterization used by Irving in presenting Tom and his wife. I suppose we might also take a look at the characterization of the Devil as well.

Did Washington Irving tell us what the devil was like or did he allow the devil’s actions to give him away?

As you go back and look at the characters who have peopled the stories and the real life individuals who have shared their thoughts and philosophical inclinations as well as their observations about the North American continent and it’s peoples, what aspects of character have you seen in those storytellers?
What are the aspects of character that are indirectly obvious in both accounts? Answering this question about the selections we have read so far this semester is your first job.
Look at the literature we have read and make two lists. Brainstorm the characteristics. Note in which literary selections you found each characteristic.

Characteristics of Americans

Attributes Deficits

When you finish your list, choose a few characteristics from each column and use them to form a thesis statement.
What seems to be true about the American character?
Write your essay using these characteristics and examples from the literature to support your thesis that these are aspects of the American character.
Obviously, there are going to be contradictions. Deal with them in the body of your paper.
Include passages from the selections we have read to support your thesis.
Go to pages R24 for help in how to include the quotations from the literary selections in the text of your paper.
Use page R32 as a source for how to footnote your essay.

Submit your paper via the Midterm assignment in the Assessments section of the course.
