Overview of critical evaluation of 3 written papers

For this part of the module assessment you are asked to produce a 500-800 word critical evaluation of three research sources that relate to a specific topic.

The three research sources should each be one of the following:

• One from a recognised journal from the Harrison Learning Centre (copy and scan it in as an asset in your webfolio)
• One from a reliable academic internet source, for example the V&A website.
• One from an online database such as Art Full Text.

Each piece of research information should give you details on your specific topic; you are being asked to critically review the information (we do not want you to simply re-write a series of facts and figures on your topic that you might find in these documents).

Therefore, when you find your three research sources, you can ask questions such as:

• Do these papers have points of agreement or disagreement?
• Do these papers contain a particular point of view or specific opinions on my topic? Where or how are these views supported?
• Do these papers change my opinions of my topic? If so, how are my opinions changed?
• What are the authors trying to achieve with these papers?

These are just some examples of critical analysis.

When applying critical analysis to a piece of writing you need to tease out information that is not clearly seen in the writing before you; this involves asking questions about authors’ statements and opinions and comparing information and knowledge (this includes the authors and your own knowledge) to develop new opinions or points of view on the topic.

NPV, IRR, and MIRR valuation methodologies custom essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Assignment/Situation: After meeting with the VP of Accounting, you believe you need to get a better understanding of the plant construction project. You call the financial analyst working on the project and ask that she bring the financials to you to discuss the valuation methodologies. Meeting with the financial analyst, discuss three key valuation methodologies that companies use– NPV, IRR, and MIRR.

Company History: Superior Living, Inc. is a private, domestic U.S. manufacturer of home furniture targeted at U.S. consumers ages 21 to 54 (from first-time apartment renters to empty nesters). The company generates $250 million in revenues from six product lines: outdoor patio, luxury, durable rental, children?s furniture, rare woods, and space saver. The company sells its products through a number of retailers and has a solid business reputation with distributors and customers. Superior Living has divisions for each of the product lines, and each division includes sales, marketing, and manufacturing personnel. The other functional areas?human resources, finance, and information technology?support the entire company. You are the vice president of finance, reporting to the chief financial officer (CFO). Your role includes the responsibility for financial analysis and financial reporting. This includes developing financial statements, monitoring performance metrics, educating the senior officer team on key financial decisions, and valuing new business opportunities that are presented to the board of directors. Superior is looking to go public in the next 6 to 8 months with an initial public offering (IPO). In addition, the company is aggressively pursuing new business opportunities, which may include expansion via acquisition and the development and implementation of new product lines. All of this will require the company to manage its finances extremely well. You are the key officer to lead in this responsibility. The CFO has asked you to meet with her to outline the financial plans for the next 12 months. She needs you to develop the three financial statements for the end of the fiscal year, determine the capital investments required for the upcoming year, develop the operating budget, and outline the plan for the IPO. To do this, you will work closely with the VP of accounting and the head of strategic planning. You know that the next 12 months can determine the long-term success of Superior. The CEO and board of directors have made it clear to you and the CFO that the financial plans for the next year should be based on sound, fundamental financial principles and contain as little risk as possible. Finally, you understand the company very well and know that the division chiefs?the senior vice presidents who lead the product divisions?wield a great deal of power and must agree to financial plans. Many of them have expressed that they will need significant expenditures next year, stating that the “running rate will not be enough,” referencing the company’s longstanding process of developing expense budgets based on the previous year?s expenditures plus a small percentage increase. Furthermore, they all have stated that if a merger should occur, it should be with a product line that compliments their division and is brought under their control.

History The Cold War At Home custom essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

1) Follow this link to the video link

2) Click on the video link and watch the video. I would suggest reading the essay questions before you watch so you know what to pay attention to; I would also suggest taking notes as you watch. Then watch the video again to catch things you might have missed. You may use the section in the book on the Cold War for more background material if you like, but it’s not necessary.
3) the paper must be between 500-1000 words in order for you to receive credit for the assignment.

Essay Question:
Although the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics were officially allies by the end of World War II, relations between the countries quickly soured once the war ended. As early as the Potsdam conference in the summer of 1945, Soviet leader Joseph Stalin told U.S. President Harry Truman that each man was profoundly misunderstood in the other’s country, and that sense of misunderstanding quickly blossomed into mutual suspicion and conviction that each country sought the other’s destruction. Tensions quickly escalated over the shape and structure of postwar Europe, as the United States complained that the Soviet Army interfered in the governance of Eastern European countries and the Soviet Union worried that the United States would use its monopoly over nuclear weaponry to attack the Soviet Union. The ensuing “Cold War” led to a tide of anti-Soviet and anti-Communist fervor in the United States. Joseph McCarthy, a little known senator from Wisconsin, built a powerful public platform between 1950 and 1954 on those anti-Communist fears, arguing that Communists had infiltrated all levels of American society, including especially the government.
McCarthy rose to great prominence and was, for a time, hailed as a hero by many for his unapologetic assault on the forces of Communism in America.

Think about the conditions in American society that allowed his vitriolic and frequently slanderous accusations to achieve such widespread renown. Consider the changes in international affairs from the end of World War II to the early 1950s, as well as the nature of the ideological conflict between capitalism and communism. Think about the relationship between popular anxieties, paranoia, patriotism, and national pride.

Write an essay that explains the causes of the Red Scare of the 1950s, typified by the career of Senator Joseph McCarthy. Your essay should describe the changes in America’s relationship to the Soviet Union in the five years after the end of World War II, including specific military conflicts as well as ideological differences. You should also discuss the nature of McCarthy’s accusations and arguments about the Communist threat. What made McCarthyism so compelling and convincing to so many Americans?

View the video “McCarthyism and the Politics of Fear” by Edward T. O?Donnell and write an essay in response to the prompt.
