How gender organizes individual life?yours or a character from a selected film or novel Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Essay One ( 50 points; 4-5 pages) will ask you to describe and analyze how gender organizes individual life?yours or a character from a selected film or novel (see below). You may do this in several ways:
1. You may do an auto-ethnography in which you describe a particular moment in which you came to understand yourself as a gendered being?that is, a moment you remember of clear socialization to gender. You are looking in memory for an instance of what sociologist Arlie Hochschild?s (1994: 4) has named ?magnified moments?: ?episodes of heightened importance, either epiphanies, moments of intense glee or unusual insight, or moments in which things go intensely but meaningfully wrong. In either case, the moment stands out; it is metaphorically rich, unusually elaborate and often echoes [later].? To do this, you may want to recall the moment writing in the present tense. Then, step back, refer to yourself in the third person to get some distance, and analyze what you have written using concepts and referencing readings from the course. The use of concepts, properly defined, is critical to the assignment.

2. You may focus on a particular experience of ?the generalized other? (see Blackboard Notes Unit IV) in the form of a movie or television show that affected your socialization to gender. Recall where and when in your biography you saw it; summarize the plot briefly and identify what moved you; analyze what you have written in using concepts and referencing readings from the course. The use of concepts, properly defined, is critical to the assignment.

3. You may keep a diary of a typical day and then note the moments when you engage in ?doing gender.? Your paper should expand on the moment or moments when you are engaged in presenting yourself as a gendered being. You must use course concepts and reference course readings.

4. If you do not wish to write about yourself, you may select a character from one of these novels–Brick Lane by Monica Ali, A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, or Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn; or from one of these films-The Hunger Games by Gary Ross, 2012; Juno by Jason Reitman 2006; Little Miss Sunshine by Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton, 2006; Mean Girls by Mark Waters, 2004; Pride and Prejudice by Joe Wright, 2005; Social Network by David Fincher 2010.
You must use course concepts, properly defined, and reference course readings.

Topic: Process analysis essay on meditation Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Praise: I was immediately drawn to your essay because of its subject. As someone who knows close to nothing about meditation, I felt like I was really learning something while reading your draft. I’m definitely the perfect audience for this type of paper!
Some great sentences:
1. “Meditation begins with the mind.”
2. “It enables a person to blossom and gives them the ability to accommodate different values in life with many conditions.”
Both these sentences were some of my favorites in your essay because they are successful without using too many words; these sentences are succinct and to the point.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT
Thesis/Focus: When writing a process essay, it’s important to think of and explain how something is done or how it works, identify what the processes are and perhaps why and when it is done, what the parts of the process are, and how one step leads to another, including what will happen and even what sorts of things might go wrong.
In the case of your draft, I’m not sure if I can really tell what the process you’re trying to explain is. At first, it seems like you’re describing all of the benefits of mediation. By the middle of your essay, around paragraph 4, it seems that perhaps your focus is the process of how to actually *practice* meditation, although you move again towards descriptions of its benefits.
It’s extremely important that you spell out what your focus is by writing a clear thesis statement. This does not mean that you should be super obvious (no need to write something like “in this paper I will explain…etc.”) but it should still be clear enough that your reader will think, “Okay, this is what this paper is going to be about.” Having a clear thesis will also be helpful in structuring your subsequent paragraphs.
Development: I really appreciate that you use sources in this draft. However, I’m not sure you’re using these sources as much as you can.
Implementing sources proves that you’ve put in the work regarding research. However, without analysis, your research doesn’t amount to much/doesn’t explain anything to the reader, so when you come you cite something in your essay, think about doing the following to enhance the effects of your research:
● Make a Point.
● Introduce evidence by providing context: for example, give the expert’s background: their name, their position/job, their field, what they are known for, the title of the text you have taken your evidence from, and some information about why this quote is relevant to your argument.
● Insert your evidence (expert opinion (quote), statistic, fact, example, paraphrase or summary).
● Insert critical thinking about the evidence: analyze, synthesize and evaluate the evidence, and its relationship to your observation or argument.
Rhetorical Structure: One way to play around with your overall structure once you’ve revised your thesis is to try the following:
1. In the introduction, specify the process about which you are writing and comment on the reason for completing the process, its level of difficulty, and on the overall approach you will need. List your steps!
2. In the first paragraph of the body of the paper (the second paragraph of the paper, the one following the introduction), you can describe the first part the first step of the process.
3. Repeat for each step. Try to go in either chronological order or in the order of importance (this of course, all depends on your opinion).
4. In the conclusion, summarize the process. You can perhaps comment on what can be done next, or comment on the effects following this process might have over time.
Of course, this is a suggestion to get you started. If you feel that moving paragraphs around differently is the way to go, by all means do so. Just keep in mind that you should think of what’s best for your essay’s overall intent.
Sentences:
I noticed that you have a lot of run-on sentences. Writers often make a run-on when they put two complete sentences (a subject and its predicate and another subject and its predicate) together in one sentence without separating them properly. Here’s an example of a run-on from your own essay:
“Finally, another aspect of meditation is calmness for a meditative mind, when a thought occurs, it can easily be witnessed unlike the ordinary mind that can be easily grounded by an upsetting thought.”
This one sentence actually contains two complete sentences. Luckily, there are many ways to correct this run-on sentence.
You could use a semicolon: “Finally, another aspect of meditation is calmness for a meditative mind; when a thought occurs, it can easily be witnessed unlike the ordinary mind that can be easily grounded by an upsetting thought.”
You could also separate the two sentences by adding a period, or even a dash.
Here’s another sentence: “Meditating with the eyes closed can be a big challenge especially for one who is beginning it is therefore good for one to have a point where to concentrate the eyes, a lit candle for example.”
My suggestion: “Meditating with closed eyes can be a big challenge, especially for one who is beginning. Therefore, it is good to have a point to concentrate the eyes, like a lit candle.”
Take a close look at your longer sentences to determine whether they are in need of different punctuation.
Avoid using “you”. “You” is usually not appropriate in academic writing because it is too vague and casual, or because it is an imperative (command) which creates distance from readers. Replace “you” with some specific group using third-person, plural nouns (like “readers,” “viewers,” “Republicans,”etc. Remember that your assignment sheet specifies that your final draft should be written exclusively in the third person.
Wrap-Up: I think you have a really great start here! Once you put some work into the revisions, particularly where your thesis is concerned, your next draft will be more effective and will truly shine. Best of luck.

Personal effectiveness project: You are a Human Resource (HR) Officer who has been tasked by your HR Manager to review a staff member who will be working as a part of a project team Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

You are required to report on how this staff member is likely to contribute to a team environment given their own unique combination
of characteristics and behaviours.
You will produce a report that clearly outlines the nature of the individual staff member and how
their behaviours and predispositions will affect an undefined team of four project members. Your
report will contain strong recommendations for the HR Manager to act upon, ensuring the
team and the individual perform harmoniously and optimally.
This scenario does require some out of body thinking. For this scenario, you are the HR Officer
reporting on a staff member. However, the staff member you will be reporting on is based on your
own results of the indicator instruments that you will complete. That is, you will be reporting on yourself, but in the report you will refer to yourself in the third person as Subject A or by any other
name other than your own, writing the report directly to the HR Manager.
It is up to you to create a project scenario of your choice and select the tasks that the staff
member should be assigned. For example: your setting may be a small accounting firm where
Subject A is working on a market expansion project; or perhaps your setting is a large corporate
law firm where Subject A is a Public Relations Officer working with a team of Lawyers who are
developing a crisis management plan. You can be creative with your scenario and it is entirely up
to you.
Credibility in the eyes of the reader is an important element to establish with this report. This will increase persuasion and likelihood that your recommendations will be adopted. In this report, you must include a literature review to build credibility for your report in the eyes of reader, the HR Manager, the details of which are outlined below.

——————————————————————————–
Report contents and structure
This report must use correct APA style referencing throughout; utilising both in-text and end-text as
outlined in your ECU Referencing Guide.
Read Chapter 7 in your Communication Skills textbook regarding the formatting and structures of
reports. You may adapt the structure that is outlined in your textbook; however, your report must
contain the minimum of the following main sections:
1. Cover page
2. Executive summary
3. Table of contents
4. Introduction
a. Scenario
b. Overview of Psychometric indicators used
5. Literature review
6. Data *
7. Findings *
8. Conclusions
9. Recommendations
10. References
* These areas and titles can be adapted/changed/expanded
Minimum required indicators
The following indicator tests must be included in your analysis and report:
1. Self-monitoring test
2. Big Five Locator
3. Interaction styles
4. One other instrument of your choice
There are many other instruments that you may want to consider to include in your report. You
should research and find one that is highly regarded.
Literature review
In this report, you must include a literature review that will give credibility to your report. The
content/focus of this literature review will not be given; it is up to you to decide what the literature
review establishes, highlights, or discusses. Those students that wish to achieve a high mark will
ensure that they use this section appropriately and concisely to build credibility and gain marks.
BES1100 Foundations of Business Knowledge 3
As a minimum, all reports must include reference to:
 3 peer reviewed journal articles
 2 industry expert sources/commentary
ELEMENTS
There are two major elements to this project:
1. Report (25%): Your report will need to contain key recommendations, be written in third
person and must be between 1500-2000 words (excluding appendices).
2. PowerPoint presentation (15%): This is a summary of the report where the intended audience is the HR manager and line managers of the project team. The presentation should be 5 minutes in length and no more than 6 minutes. Appropriate presentation aids must be used (PowerPoint, etc.) and students must be professionally attired.

Korea Reunited: According to Jacobs and Khanna – In an echo of German unification, a collapse of the North Korean regime would pave the way for the militarized border to open up and disappear Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

choose whether you agree or disagree with the following statement:
11. Korea Reunited: According to Jacobs and Khanna.

“In an echo of German unification, a collapse of the North Korean regime would pave the way for the militarized border to open up and disappear. In fact, South Korean strategists are already quietly building a regional coalition to manage the economic and social costs of absorbing the hermit kingdom.”

How well such potential integration of North Korea may go is not clear, however, and even South Korea remains characterized by intense regionalism in politics, as is evident from recent election returns. For all of that, however, Korean nationalism remains a potent force.
