Post In Discussion Board in the area topics from Week 2 after viewing the video clip General’s Daughter Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

1.Post In Discussion Board in the area topics from Week 2 after viewing the video clip Generals Daughter. As first officer on the scene how would protect the immediate and outer scene. (you find the body while on patrol). you will watch this video clip on you tube and then answer the above question, second question is, this is a scenario

As a police officer you are required to investigate crime, see Canlii as one of the duties of a police officer.

You have just investigated a break and enter into a house were the suspect smashed a rear window to gain access into the house. You find blood on the glass indicating the suspect has cut himself and the premise has been ransanked which could mean fingerprints have been left behind by the suspect. A television has been stolen. On leaving the scene, two blocks away, you observe a male carrying a television which matches the description of the one stolen from the crime scene. You stop and question the male. You observe cuts on his hands. The televisions serial number matches the one stolen.

You place the accused under arrest (notice the status change). Under common law you may search for identification and evidence. In this case you find a pry bar in the accuseds possession. You could seize the pry bar as evidence. What if you did not have reasonable grounds to arrest the male? What could you do?

Check It Out
Read and be familiar with Criminal Code of Canada section #489

What about the fingerprints at the scene? Read and be familiar with The Identification of Criminals Act

what you would do if you did not arrest the male in the above scenario and what could you do about the fingerprints left at the scene.

The third question is, In this lesson we will discuss the value of evidence and the proper techniques in collecting trace evidence.
Understanding evidence continuity.
Preparing evidence labels.
Collecting and packaging blood, hair and fibers, semen, saliva, cigarette butts, paint, gases, and fingerprint evidence.

Please view the video clip taken from Exhibit A the link is found below. How Do you think this crime scene was protected? What evidence was collected and would that the evidence contribute to the solving of the case?
Evidence Manual
There are two important considerations in evidence collection:
1.Proper packaging of the evidence to maximize integrity.
2.Ensuring evidence continuity.
Evidence continuity is defined as unbroken succession.
For example if you were to collect the underwear as seen in Exhibit A and keep them in your possession until court, it would be unbroken succession of that piece of evidence or excellent evidence continuity. However in most cases evidence has to be passed on to other persons, experts for further examination.
This is where problems occur as evidence does get lost or tampered with. The original piece of evidence should be the evidence introduced into court.

Best Evidence Rule
The original piece of evidence should be introduced or be present in court.
Some basic rules need to be followed.
1.Initial all evidence
2.Use evidence labels.
3.Use evidence seals.
A permanent marker can be used to initial any type of surfaces. If the piece of evidence is too small package the evidence and initial the container. Initial everything in order to later identify the item in court as it is the item that you located at the scene. Initial the object in a location which will not interfere with the evidence it may contain.
Evidence labels are used to explain what is inside the evidence package. An evidence label includes the time, date, what evidence is inside the package and who collected the evidence originally.
An evidence seal is a piece of tape with a serial number on it to distinguish it from other pieces of evidence. The seal is placed on the evidence package to ensure no one tampers with the evidence and that you can attest to that fact that is the evidence seal is intact.

Protect Your Self
It is important to wear latex gloves when handling evidence:

1.It ensures you do not transfer any trace evidence onto the item you are collecting, such as your fingerprints.
2.The gloves protect you from bodily fluids such as blood which may contain hepatitis A or AIDS.
Anything may be used to package evidence, a film container, paper bag or plastic bag.

A simple way to package evidence is to use a fourfold

Take a 8 x 10 sheet of 1st fold it in half, place the evidence inside the fold, 2nd fold the left third of the sheet to the centre, then 3rd fold the right to the

centre and last a 4th fold across the top. Place the fourfold into an envelope and label the envelope and place an evidence seal on the envelope.

The proper method of packaging evidence as described by the Ontario Centre for Forensic Science can be obtained at:

A word about fingerprints, fingerprints are very fragile. Latent (invisible) fingerprints can be rubbed off an object easily.

Collecting Objects For Fingerprint Examination
1. Hard surface objects such as beer bottles or pop can should not be packaged. Hand deliver the object to the expert without packaging. Handle the object in a

location were there it is unlikely to be fingerprints such as the lip of the beer bottle.

2. Soft surface objects such as paper should be packaged in an envelope

answer this question for the third one, 1.Describe how you would protect this crime scene
2.Describe what evidence was present and how might that evidence contribute to the solving of the case?
3.How would you collect and package any "two" peices of evidence

IT to help build a Healthy Community Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

MAP-IT means: Mobilize, Assess, Plan, Implement, and Track
To begin to achieve the goal of improving health, a community must develop a strategy. That strategy, to be successful, must be supported by many individuals who are working together.
In much the same way you might map out a trip to a new place, you can use the MAP-IT technique to ‘map out’ the path toward the change you want to see in your community.
For the Session Long Project (SLP) of this course, you will follow one of the following families:

1) A non-English speaking immigrant family.  The parents, (35 year old father and a 31 year old mother) have a one-year old son. They (the parents) are obese, smokers, alcoholics and have only a high school education.  Due to their weight, the mother has diabetes and high blood pressure, and the father has high blood pressure and kidney disease. The parents are a low income family with no insurance.  You will guide the parents on how to achieve the minimum state health requirements for both the child and themselves, i.e. vaccination, good nutrition, a safe and healthy home environment etc.; or,

2) An English-speaking American family.  The parents, (42 year old father and a 40 year old mother) have two children, a 14-year old son and a 18 year old daughter. They (the parents) are obese, smokers, and have a history of heavy drug use in their late teen and early adult years.  The father has only a high school education while the mother has a BA in English Literature.  Due to their weight, the mother has diabetes and high blood pressure, and the father has high blood pressure and liver aliments. The son suffers from asthma while the daughter has had two previous abortions. She may be drug dependent. The parents are a moderate-low income family with minimal insurance.  You will guide the parents on how to achieve the minimum state health requirements for both the child and themselves, i.e. vaccination, good nutrition, a safe and healthy home environment etc.

Before you begin the SLP please review: Choosing the Right Approach for Health
Steps in MAP-IT are:
1)  Mobilize individuals and organizations that care about the health of your community into a coalition.
2)  Assess the areas of greatest need in your community, [in this case, assisting new immigrants to access health care], as well as the resources and other strengths that you can tap into in order to address those areas.
3)  Plan your approach: start with a vision of where you want to be as a community, then add strategies and action steps to help you achieve that vision: you can be a health educator, a health care provider, a nutritionist, a social worker etc..
4)  Implement your plan using concrete action steps that can be monitored and will make a difference.
5)  Track your progress over time.

Using this MAP-IT approach, a step-by-step, structured plan can be devised to tailor one’s community needs.
The first step in building a healthier community is to mobilize key individuals and organizations to form a community-wide coalition. Most communities already have health departments and other governmental agencies that are responsible for public health services. Many communities also have coalitions of key individuals and organizations that are organized to address specific issues, for example, block associations or neighborhood watch groups. These groups often represent diverse interests and resources for addressing issues that are vital to building and maintaining the health and stability of the entire community. A coalition will often, of course, work with the health department and other health organizations in the community. However, it can also help mobilize a wider range of other resources to address health issues.

You are to complete the following tasks for each module as highlighted.

Module 1:  You have completed this module SLP which was to:

a)  Select which family you for which you will use the MAP-IT Approach for the SLP.
b)  Discuss how you will Mobilize individuals and organizations that care about the health of your community into a coalition. Identify the individuals and organizations which will form the basis of your coalition.  Discuss how each member of your coalition can assist each member of your target family.

Using the information in the Las Vegas sheriff’s report on pp. 482-483 in Fedler Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Part 1

Using the information in the Las Vegas sheriff’s report on pp. 482-483 in Fedler, write a 200-250-word news story. You must write a summary news lead and use inverted pyramid style.

Part 2

Using information you find from official, credible online sources or by calling the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, write a 100-word news sidebar that reveals missing persons information for the Las Vegas area. Attribute the information to your source. Enhance this sidebar with relevant hyperlinks.

Some tips for success:
Story 2 has three parts: 1) a news story based on the assigned Fedler scenario; 2) a brief sidebar, which you’ll find instructions for elsewhere in this week’s conference topics; 3) Web enhancements (also described elsewhere this week).
Your news lead should contain no more than 20 words and a single sentence. Write it in the active voice. Include the most important detail of the story.
Answer this question in the lead: What happened today? Who-did-what-when?
Write the story in inverted pyramid style. Start with the most important detail. Each paragraph should include the story’s next-most important detail. The last paragraph should be unimportant. If you don’t know what inverted pyramid style is, you haven’t read the Week 4 conference topics. Please prepare yourself for Story 2 by reading and learning the instructions, rules and tips in the Weeks 1-4 conferences, and your textbook chapters.
Remember: Every paragraph should have something to do with the ones before and after it. Ask yourself: What does this sentence have to do with the one before it? If you can’t pinpoint the relationship, you’ve got your paragraphs in the wrong order.
If you use a quotation, make sure it is a direct quote. You may not put quotation marks around anything that you cannot attribute to an individual. If the scenario does not have quotation marks around a sentence, do not add them. It is inaccurate (and a serious journalistic offense) to enclose paraphrased material in quotation marks. Be sure to follow the rules for punctuating quotations outlined in Module 2.
Do not offer any opinions or draw any conclusions. Do not wrap up the story in the last paragraph. Avoid adjectives; most are value-laden.
Delete any unnecessary words. Your goal: economy of language. Write short, simple words, short paragraphs, short sentences. (But try not to make your writing choppy.)
Do not copy any wording from the scenario in Fedler. Use your own words. The authors deliberately wrote the scenarios in horrible form so you would have to figure out how to clean it up.
Look up all style points in the AP Style Book.
Check spelling and grammar. Proofread for typos. A typo costs you as much as a misspelled word.
Make sure your facts are absolutely accurate. Do not add or assume anything that’s not there in black and white.
Spell names correctly. You will find all names used in the Fedler scenarios in the back of your textbook in the city directory. You’ll lose a full letter grade for a misspelled name.
Write literally. Avoid misplaced modifiers.
