[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

The situations described below often face educational assistants.

Choose any 5 of the scenarios presented below. Use the case study response outline provided below and write a paragraph or two on each section.

Case Study Response Outline

Use the following organizer to summarize your ideas and make a final decision. Use point style to record your ideas and thoughts.

My understanding of the situation is: (2 marks)
Possible actions and implications: (3 marks)
Summary of my decision and comments: (3 marks)
1. A parent of a special education student attends the same aerobics class as you do the educational assistant. The parent repeatedly asks about the child’s progress at school.
2. As an educational assistant in the classroom, you feel that the supervising teacher exhibits poor teaching skills and that the classroom lacks organization. You don’t feel comfortable discussing this with the teacher so you want to go directly to the school administration with the concerns.
3. An educational assistant has the responsibility of transporting and supervising three students doing work experience in a local facility. In an effort to try to do some training in the classroom, the EA writes an extensive task analysis of each students work. The EA then plans and creates additional activities to be used for instruction.
4. The EA and the teacher need time to discuss the behavior problems that Tommy is having in the classroom. The EA is scheduled and paid only to be there when the children are in the classroom.
5. You work with a small group of EA’s who always sit together during lunch. They usually discuss the problems and mistakes that their supervising teachers have made that morning.
6. You feel that some of the strategies that the teacher is using with a student are doing more harm than good. The child seems to be coming to class very upset. You’ve heard the teacher say that the child just needs to be tougher.
7. The teacher asks the educational assistant to contact parents about discipline problems that have occurred during the day.
8. You have become a "good buddy" to several of the high school students. They ask you if you would like to party with them.
9. The school secretary seems to be a good source of information about many of the students in the school. She seems to have considerable information on their families as well. You and the secretary discuss a specific student’s problems during lunch.
10. A student who in the ESL program (English as a Second Language) is having some problems in the math class. The teacher says she thinks the student is a gang member and that if the rules are strictly enforced the student might drop out of school, eliminating the problem.
11. The teacher asks you, the educational assistant, to go to the office to obtain a student’s Ontario Student Record (OSR) folder.
12. The teacher asks you to help a student with their social studies assignment. After looking at the lesson you are not sure that you know enough about the subject to help the student.
13. You are attending a church social. One of the prominent members is sitting at your table. You hear them say: "I don’t think that they should be wasting all that money on programs for those handicapped children, they won’t amount to anything anyway. My child is in the gifted program and there is never enough money".
14. The teacher is required to attend a professional meeting. The educational assistant is left in charge of the students rather than employing a substitute.
NOTE: As you are in an educational setting marks will be deducted for incorrect spelling and grammar.
Please submit this assignment on line in the Dropbox section.
Please contact the instructor prior to the due date regarding extensions, concerns.

What were the steps that led to the Civil War? What was the process by which the Civil War came about? Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Write an essay of two pages in response to the following question. Use examples from voices of freedom by Eric Foner, Give me Liberty by Eric Foner and readings and the lectures to support your points only.

What were the steps that led to the Civil War? What was the process by which the Civil War came about? In your answer, be sure to cover not only military actions, but ideas, economic developments, and social realities. You must address FOUR of the following topics: slavery, westward expansion, the election of Abraham Lincoln, the economy and society of the North, the economy and society of the South, the firing on Fort Sumter, the political compromises of the 1850s.

Write a short (approx. half a page) essay on the following topic. Be sure to use examples from Harriet Jacobs Incidents in the Life Of A Slave Girl.
Describe Harriet Jacobs’ s attempts to escape, and her final success at reaching the North. Were all of her problems solved upon reaching free states?

Describe the who, what, when, where, and historical significance of Harriet Tubman (12-15 sentences)

How did white Southerners define freedom? How did they structure their freedom based upon slavery? Do you think non-slaveholding whites supported slavery, as well? How did they think about freedom? (8-10 sentences)

What do you think was the cause of the Civil War? Why did people fight in it? What were the different visions of “America?” (8-15 sentences)
In what ways was Harriet Jacobs able to create her own culture and live her own life within the very strict limits of slavery? (8-15 sentences)

In what ways was the Southern economy based upon slavery? Explain how slave owners made money and organized society, but also pay attention to why non-slaveholding whites (who were 3/4 of the white Southern population) would support slavery. In what ways did they benefit and profit from slavery? Keep in mind that “benefit” and “profit” might mean in a psychological sense, rather than always a monetary one. (12-15 sentences)

What do you think was the cause of the Civil War? Why did people fight in it? What were the different visions of “America?” (10-15 sentences)

How did the economy and society of the North differ from that of the South? Do you think Northerners fought to end slavery? If so, do you think they were abolitionists? (10-15 sentences)

Access the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting System at and familiarize yourself with the site Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Using research and data from the site, address the following:

Explain how individual agencies classify information that is compiled into the report.
Analyze and identify resources public safety officials, like sheriffs or police chiefs, have to classify or categorize crimes in their cities, counties, and states.
Discuss the pros and cons of the Uniform Crime Reporting System and the yearly reports.
Part 2: Analyzing Specific Data

An important goal of the criminal justice system is to use the information gathered about crimes to understand and predict criminal behavior. Access the homepage of the UCR (http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/ucr) and complete the following steps:

Select a type of crime to research (e.g., “Violent Crime” or “Property Crime”). Then, choose a specific crime within one of those categories (e.g., Violent Crime: Murder).
You will need both national data and your state’s data for the crime you chose.
Choose your state to research that type of crime: Under “Browse By,” click “City Agency,” click “Table 8,” and choose a state.
Gather the national data for that type of crime: Under “Browse By,” click “National Data”; use the tables to answer the questions.
Using research and data from the site and other external sources, address the following:

Explain how the UCR can help public safety officials predict crime and present crime rates to the American public.
Based on the data and what you have learned in the course, forecast the criminal activity for the nation, your state, or a selected city.
Compare the UCR data for the crime you selected with the same statistical information for that crime in 1950 (you will need to search for these statistics). Are there similarities or differences or can you infer from the data that the trends have remained the same?
How can government officials use the crime statistics data from the 1970s to predict crime twenty years later? How reliable are the statistics in the UCR? Are law enforcement agencies required to report their criminal incidents for compilation in the yearly UCR?
Include a title page with your name, date, and assignment title and check for correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and usage. Provide at least three references (one may be your textbook) in the APA format that you used in writing your paper (make sure all your in-text citations link to a reference in your list). You should read the grading rubric before starting your paper to ensure you cover all the material appropriately.
