Critical thinking skills to evaluate the argument of a op-ed (opinion) piece in a major newspaper or magazine Custom Paper

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

This assignment is a formal 1000-word essay in which you use your critical thinking skills to evaluate the argument of a op-ed (opinion) piece in a major newspaper or magazine.

Your essay will be an assessment of what the author is trying to achieve, which strategies s/he is using to attain this end, and the effectiveness of those strategies. This will involve identifying the purpose and audience of the piece and then analysing the piece with respect to elements of argument we have discussed in class: structure, evidence, assumptions, and language. You should focus on only one or two of these elements; dont try to cover everything! (At the same time you should bear in mind that all of these elements work together to achieve the overall effect.)

Remember that you are critiquing the text itself, not the topic it addresses. And note that the word critiquing does not mean that your essay must be negative: you may want to argue, for example, why the strategies employed are particularly effective.

In your introduction you should do the following:

Briefly identify the article: title, source, author
Summarise its argument in no more than 2-3 sentences
Identify the element(s) you will discuss
Briefly suggest your evaluation of the arguments effectiveness (optional)
It is in the thesis statement that you will identify the element(s) and possibly the evaluation. The thesis will determine the structure of your essay; in other words, do not simply work your way through the article as it is written. Make sure that each paragraph is unified: that is, you should have one main idea per paragraph. In your conclusion you will summarise the preceding paragraphs, weighing the texts strengths and weaknesses to arrive at an overall assessment of the piece.

A few technical points. The first time you refer to the author, use the full name; after that, you can use the last name only. After using a quotation, put the paragraph number in parentheses: eg. (para. 5). You dont need to quote a large section of text: quote just enough that I know which part of the essay youre discussing. Simply use ellipses () to indicate the missing portion(s). The article should be cited in the bibliography using the following format:

Last name, First name. Title. (Year, Month Date). Retrieved [date] from [Newspaper]: URL.

The article you choose can be written about any subject and with any tone. But it should be signed with an authors name and put forward a clear argument.

DOMESTIC ABUSE: Susan felt “swept off her feet” when she met Roy Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Susan and Roy have been married for 15 years. Susan is 36 years old and Roy is 42 years old. Susan has trained as a legal executive and now works part time. Roy was in the army as an instructor when the couple met. He has always liked extreme sports and used to enjoy skiing and paragliding. However, Roy has been unable to continue with his sporting activities as he had an accident 5 years ago which left him with limited movement in his back. He has recently stopped working.

Susan felt “swept off her feet” when she met Roy. He was very intense and bombarded her with presents and attention. She felt pretty good when he said she was his “whole world”. After a few years Roy seemed to become very anxious and controlling, worrying about who Susan was meeting at work and whether she would leave him. Susan was anxious to reassure him and began to find it easier to stop seeing friends or going out socially without Roy. In fact, Roy seemed to prefer both of them to stay at home and began to be moody if people called round or if they saw friends so this all stopped.

Susan and Roy have 2 children. Their daughter, Ellen, is 13 years old and their son, Harry, is 15. Roy has always been strict with the children and Susan has done her best to protect them from his increasing moodiness. In fact, since Roy had his accident he has become more and more angry. Susan realises that she tends to be really on edge around him and feels she has to watch out for the children. She has noticed that Harry stays in his room and refuses to say where he is going when he does go out. She feels she is losing control of Harry who himself seems full of anger and resentment when he is in the house. Ellen is tearful and withdrawn and is having problems with her friends at school. Both children seem unhappy but Susan feels helpless in the face of Roy’s angry outbursts. If she tries to spend too much time with them he seems to be worse than usual.

Roy has begun to be really paranoid. He accuses Susan of cheating on him, has begun to phone her at work and has even turned up on a couple of occasions to “escort her home”. Susan is still trying to keep the peace and tries really hard to anticipate Roy’s every mood in case he starts getting angry and shouting and breaking things. She is aware that things seem to be at “breaking point” but feels helpless and can’t seem to think what she could do to change the situation. Roy has pushed her a couple of times recently but then been really upset and apologetic. Susan is aware how frustrated he is with the limitations on his physical activity and tries to be understanding.

Last week Roy lost his temper and hit Ellen really hard across the face and head.. This is the first time he has hurt one of the children physically but Susan is alarmed that Ellen may have concussion as she hit her head and seems dazed and disorientated.. Susan has decided that she will take Ellen up to be checked at A & E . While there she calls the Police who go to their house and arrest Roy. He is not allowed back in the house and Susan feels that she can at last try to separate from him.

Roy bombards Susan with calls and texts, alternately pleading with her and threatening to kill himself and her if she doesn’t take him back. He says he has nothing without her and his life is over. He promises never to hurt them again and says he will get some help. Susan stays firm to her resolve.

After some weeks Roy breaks into the house. He is carrying a knife. Both children are present while he stabs Susan a number of times as she attempts to press the panic button which the Police have installed. Before the Police arrive, Roy manages to take his own life in front of Susan and the children.

Susan survives. The two children receive support but Harry is angry with his sister for causing this to have happened. He blames her for wanting to go to the hospital and he blames his mother for reporting Ellen’s injury to the Police. Harry is angry and resentful and misses his father. Ellen blames herself and is desperately anxious and fearful to leave her mother who takes time to recover from her physical injuries and is also left feeling emotionally fragile.

Student will be expected to:

You might think about why Susan did not report Roy before, whether she should or could have left him, why she didn’t and what might help now. What kind of help might be on offer and what are your thoughts about the future for this family.

C. Your final paragraph should be general again and should discuss some of the legislation and resources that are currently available to victims and perpetrators of abuse, including things such as risk assessment, IDVA’s and MARACs and anything else you think is important in relation to working with Domestic Violence.

The Phenomenon of the “Particularists” Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Using the theoretical framework of Kaldors’ “New and Old Wars” and Levitt’s “Illegal Peace” and war, explain the phenomenon of the “particularists” and the challenge this presents in the 21st century. This assignment is not a review of the chapters you have read, rather you are expected to critically state your thesis and defend it with evidence and ideas we have covered so far. I am not looking for a “resolution” of this phenomenon but you are expected to demonstrate an understanding of it.

The assignment is 2-3 pages double-spaced. Remember you cannot cover all the readings in this one paper. Focus on your thesis and support it. I will be looking for engagement with some of the literature

India: Analyzing the global environments of doing business in another nation Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

The purpose of this project is for you to write a scholarly, graduate-level research paper in current APA format. Competency in current APA format is required of all business graduates of Liberty University, as set forth by policy of both the Graduate Faculty and the administration.

You will research and write a paper on analyzing the global environments of doing business in another nation. You will select a nation to study, and have approximately 7 weeks to research and write the paper. Please be sure to check the Announcements page for the approved topics. Your instructor will provide a list of approved nations during the first module/week of class. Simply select the nation, and then begin working on the project.

The Final Project will consist of the following Level-One (current APA format) heading sections:
1. Purpose of the Report (1–2 paragraphs)
2. Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability
3. Economic and Socioeconomic Forces
4. Political Forces
5. Legal Forces
6. Financial Forces
7. Labor Forces
8. Implications for US Managers
9. Integration of Faith and Learning

Notice that sections 2–7 correspond to your textbook chapters. Using what you have learned in those chapters as a guide, research and write a 16-page paper that provides a substantive and comprehensive analysis of the International Business environments for the selected nation.

Section 9 of your paper will come directly from your own research of scholarly articles or journals, as well as information gleaned from your textbook. You must identify as well as elaborate on 5 important aspects a Christian manager must consider when negotiating a business deal with a foreign culture and 5 things to avoid when negotiating a business deal with a foreign culture. The use of biblical references is required.

The paper is to be written in strict conformance to current APA standards, and contain at least 16 pages of content (excluding the title page, abstract, and references) utilizing at least 16 scholarly references.

Use the following as the exact title of your paper: Business Environmental Analysis Report: (insert nation selected).

The paper is to be posted in the SafeAssign link, at the end of Module/Week 8. Also, the paper content must not contain more than 15% quotations. It is highly recommend that each student download and read the instructions to avoid any stress created by issues that are the result of waiting until the last minute. Two SafeAssign draft check areas will be provided for you to use to improve your Originality Score, prior to your final submission in the title-link.

Three levels of APA headings should be used throughout the paper, as this is a graduate-level research paper.

Plagiarism and Paraphrasing

Some students do not fully understand the difference between Plagiarism and Paraphrasing. Paraphrasing is when you take a source or someone else’s idea and say it in your own words. When you paraphrase you must still give the author’s name, date, title of the source, the scholarly journal where it came from, and the exact website address or book.

However, when you directly quote a source, it must have quotation marks around the quote, or (if 40 words or more) it must be set in block quotation format. If you directly quote anyone, you must set it in quotation marks or block quotation and give detailed information of where you acquired the quote.

The paper must not be a series of quotations. Please note the software counts both what is placed in quotations in the paper, AND other material in the paper that is found to be from other sources but not quoted, so be very careful in composing the paper.
