Application: Collective Action for Social Movements Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Application: Collective Action for Social Movements
For every historical figure known for making significant, if not revolutionary, shifts in society, there
were many people working in support of addressing the same social issue. It is a disservice to the
person and his or her peer activists to ignore the many individual contributions that result in and
depend on social change. Having a good understanding of the history of social movements is
essential to creating social change today. For this assignment, you explore an example of social
change from history and consider the individual and collective roles involved.
To prepare for this Assignment:
• Read Loeb’s reflection on Rosa Parks (2010, p. 1) in the Learning Resources for an example of
individual versus collective efforts to promote social change.
• Use the Walden Library to research and locate an article on one of the following social movements:
African American civil rights, Chicano movement, American Indian or ”Red Power” movement,
women’s rights, LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) rights, or disability rights.
• As you review selected resources, look for both direct and indirect references to the human
resources required to transform this issue into a movement.
The Assignment:
Write a 2-page analysis responding to the following questions:
• What did the collective effort accomplish that an individual could not?
• In what ways does group involvement cause these movements to be sustainable or have longlasting impact?
Include one reference from your selected resources on a social movement and two references from
this week’s Learning Resources using proper APA citation.

Purpose: In this assignment, you are asked to take and defend a critical argument about H.G. Wells’

Texts:
H.G. Wells, The Time Machine
Kathryn Hume, “Eat Or Be Eaten: H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine”
John Huntington, “The Time Machine and Wells’s Social Trajectory”
Paul A. Cantor and Peter Hufnagel, “The Empire of the Future: Imperialism and Modernism in H.G.
Wells”
Elaine Showalter, “Eat Or Be Eaten”

consider at least two of the critical essays from the list above. You can use more than two as long
as at least two are given extended discussion and analysis.
Required Elements:
1. You must have an original thesis, though you can use your thesis to defend and support the
argument of one of the critical essays that you find particularly convincing.
2. Remember that at least two critical essays (The choices are above) must be discussed
extensively in the course of your paper.
3. When you use quotes and paraphrases from the novel and essays, be sure to cite them using
correct MLA format and to analyze them carefully.
4. You need a Works Cited page at the end of the essay in which all sources are listed in correct
MLA format.
5. Be sure to proofread as spelling and grammar do count.
6. As always, feel free to make an appointment for help in office hours!
The Thesis should be: “Well’s fin-de-siecle London scientist, brings uncannily into focus the mingled
elements of class conflict, sexual hostility, cannibalistic transgression, racial fantasy, gender
confusion, and apocalyptic angst…”
Elaine Showalter, “The apocalyptic fables of H.G. Wells.” P.214 (HG WELLS, TIME MACHINE)

Corpus Linguistics Assignment: It needs to factor in why they do this, ie, interlanguage and intralanguage problems Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

It is a problem solution assignment. I am using my Saudi students as my constituent. My topic is the
lack of the use of the indefinite article. (A)
I need to provide an intro, what the problem is in its wider academic context as well as my own in
the classroom.
I have to device a set of lesson plans from COCA or BYU that will help the students to overcome
this.
It may be concordancing. This needs to be stated the way the materials have been derived.
It needs to factor in why they do this, ie, interlanguage and intralanguage problems.
It needs citations for specific academic works that have been completed on this subject. Some
gumph about the shitty Saudi curriculum and their general distrust of westerners and a lack of
integrative and instrumental motivation. EXTRA PROBLEMS.
The appendix needs to show the materials that have been designed for the classroom to help
them use the A. As each method is used in the solution it needs to be linked to the appendix
number of the task in the appendix, so that the reader can find it straight away.
Conclusion followed by Harvard style referencing.
I have ten days, two weeks at maximum. Can you do this? If not, can it be given to someone who
knows how to use corpus to design practical applications for the classroom to stop this error my
Saudi students are making?
The age-group is 18-24yrs at a technical college. This is the preparatory year before they go on to
complete their trade-training in English.
I will send the paper and more information as and when it is required. References to be at your
discretion with regard to the amount. It looks better to have a few i guess.

The significance of locale, criminality and sexuality in Damage Land: New Scottish Gothic Fiction (ed) Alan Bissett Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

The literature NEEDS to be the primary source of analysis. That means the writer will have to read
the collection of short stories. There is a limited amount of secondary material on the stories and so
it will be very obvious if they are used. This needs to be an independent, unique, approach to the
collection. The essay must use close reading skills to analyse the texts, that is, the importance of its
symbolism, characterisation, narrative structure etc.
The themes to apply your close analysis to are in the title. Locale, criminality and sexuality. The
essay comes from a course on modern scottish literature so theories should be applied concerning
the reading of gothic texts. (some are named below for your consideration)
theory/theories MUST be applied of which you have to use the following:
The first chapter ‘the dead can sing’ i would avoid using too much because of the crass
generalisations made in it from the editor.
MOST IMPORTANTLY:
introductions are not needed or wanted. that is, no introductions regarding authors or editor or
long passages regarding the theories. this is primarily about a close reading of the text where you
will use theories to determine how you approach that reading.
Some very useful Papers:
Robert Mighall’s (2003)A Geography of Victorian Gothic Fiction: Mapping History’s Nightmares,
Markman Ellis’ (2005) The History of Gothic Fiction
(this is a must use for this essay!) David Punter’s (2001) edition of essays, A Companion to the
Gothic – of which –

Industral Organization: Outline theories that deal with what happens when there are less firms in an industry, and whether this ‘lessening of competition’ is a good or bad thing Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

The first part of this essay does not answer the question. You need to make sure you address the question and answer it as best you can. You need to outline theories that deal with what happens when there are less firms in an industry, and whether this ‘lessening of competition’ is a good or bad thing. At the moment you make no mention of theories.
The second part should then see you appraise your part a, in light of the report from the Competition Commission- do they agree with you or not?
