You should select an event that occurred within the last three (3) years, preferably in the United States.
-The event should be sufficiently large to warrant the mobilization of significant Emergency Management response resources. Please try to identify an event that did not receive wide spread publicity. In this section of your review you shall provide a thorough briefing of the event. Include issues such as number of people displaced, injuries, deaths, costs, etc. Should the disaster have been anticipated? Could it have been prevented?
2. Response
– In this section you should provide a complete review of the events preparation and response. In this section please discuss risk assessments (if applicable), planning, mitigation, response and recovery.
3. Assessment
– In this section you will provide your assessment of how this was handled. This should be a critical assessment of all the EM components discussed during the course. Please draw upon your own experiences as well as the text book information.
PRESENTATION:
1. This report shall be six (6) to eight (8) typed (double spaced) pages. This may seem like common sense but just to avoid any confusion the paper should contain 1 inch margins, 12 font. Please feel free to include photos but you must submit a minimum of six pages of narrative.
2. Please cite your sources.
It is very important that this paper demonstrate your knowledge of EM. Simply producing an “after action report” or other previously prepared assessment will result in substantial reduction of earned points.
