Assignment Guidelines
You will design a V/S activity, including a mind map, to present to your class. (If you are not presently teaching in the classroom, to do this assignment you can either interview someone who is teaching, ?borrow? someone?s class to do this activity or discuss your ideas with a colleague and predict the results.) This assignment should be 1-2 pages in length. The following information should be contained in the assignment:
State the content topic you have selected.
Create and present a mind map that you will use on this topic to illustrate the effectiveness of using a visual to share information. Focus on students realizing the power of a visual presentation.
Design a lesson in which you will have students either work individually, or in a group, to create a colorful mind map to evidence their learning. They should include a title in the heading. The individual, or group, will then present their mind map to the class.
After each presentation the teacher will ask the class:
What did you like about this mind map?
What did you learn from this mind map?
What suggestions do you have for creating mind maps in the future?
Reflect on this lesson mentioning what you learned, students? reactions to the task, suggestions for future lessons and extensions or enhancements to this type of activity.
