Nursing setting, whether you work in a doctor’s office, clinic, hospital, community setting. Choose a nursing concept and write a concept paper using the guidelines from Avant & Walker or website. Paper should be approximately 6 pages. See also www2.kumc.edu/instructional education/.
Below are the grading criteria for the concept paper. It is recommended that you use the topics as your subheadings. Examples of nursing concepts are hope, caring, culture, adaptation, etc. If there are two or three words in your concept you must define each word. Choose a concept that will correlate with the nursing theory you will choose later in the course for your theory paper. This is not the theory paper.
Start thinking about the theorist you will choose for your final paper & the concepts used in that theory.
Introduction of the concept-tell me which concept you choose & why.
Review of literature Tell me
how these authors have defined the concept in their writings. Search enough literature so that you can find some similarities. The similarities will be defining attributes, (words that they all use when defining the concept).
Choose a few and make your own definition of the concept.
Antecedents-things that must happen, be present before the concept can take place Consequences-things that may happen if the concept is not present.
Example cases- 3, Model (all of the attributes of the concept) must do & 2 others
Contrary (none of the attributes of the concept)
Related (some of the attributes of the concept)
Invented (make this up, mythology) Empirical Referents- How do we know that this is indeed the concept. List instruments that exist to measure the concept. Cite research studies that use the concept.
Give examples of how the concept is used in the Literature.

Level of headings-keep it simple.
