Topics: (please select one)
1. Explore and critically analyse the notion of ability and disability and the meanings these
terms create within nursing and the broader community.
2. Describe and discuss the ‘rehabilitative attitude’ in nursing. In what ways is this
different from traditional approaches to rehabilitation?
In terms of the last essay for this unit you only need to pick one of the topics for discussion. Readings related to both areas are included however one of them asks you to concentrate on the notions of ability and disability and what these terms mean both within nursing and also within the whole community – so looking at articles related to the definitions or concepts of these two terms will help you. The second topic asks you to explore the idea of a ‘rehabilitative attitude’ and how this differs from the traditional definition or idea of rehabilitation.
