General Guidelines
A. Margins: One inch on all sides (top, bottom, left, right)
B. Font Size and Type: 12-pt. Times New Roman font
C. Line Spacing: Double-space throughout the paper, including the title page, body of the paper and references.
D. Spacing after Punctuation: Space once after commas, colons, and semicolons within sentences. Insert two spaces after punctuation marks that end sentences.
E. Alignment: Flush justify (align text to both the left and right)
F. Paragraph Indentation: 5 spaces
G. Active voice: As a general rule, use the active voice rather than the passive voice. For example, use �We predicted that �� rather than �It was predicted that ��
I-Title Page (do not number)
Key Elements: Paper title, your name, student ID, course number, course section, university name.
Paper Title: Uppercase and lowercase letters, centered on the page.
Your name (first and last): Uppercase and lowercase letters, centered on the line following the title.
Your ID, Course Number and University: Uppercase and lowercase letters, centered on the line following your name.
II- Body (page number 1 to 3)
a. Introduction: a brief summary of what you are going to discuss. The introduction (which is not labeled) begins on the first line followed by the body (not labeled).
b. Summary: summary of what the article and the textbook chapter were about. This includes a discussion of the theory or theories, its importance, data source, results and conclusions.
c. Critical reflections: discuss the shortcoming or strength of the original article. How it could have been improved and the sociological relevance of your suggestions. Relate it to the textbook chapter.
d. Conclusion: a summary of the key issues that you have written about.
A. Pagination: The body of the paper begins on a new page (page 1). Subsections of the body of the paper do not begin on new pages.
