However, WTO Agreements such as the Sanitary and Phytosanitary measures (SPS) is tailored to ensure protection of life, health of the people, plants and animals. Article 2 of this agreement continues to restrict protection of consumers from imported products. There is a loop hole to this agreement as it illegitimates labelling requirements that have no scientific proof of being unhealthy.
The bottom line is that the environment has not been fully covered by both GATT and WTO regulations as the articles concentrate much on enhancing trade between nations by minimizing quotas and tariffs.
