Case study: Green trees Residential Home
Green Trees is a residential care home for frail elderly people. The residents of the home come varied backgrounds, including people of different ages, genders, ethnic backgrounds and religious beliefs. Some residents are quite independent whilst others need a lots support with daily tasks. The home has large dinning room overlooking the gardens and the food is cooked on the premises. The residents enjoy getting together for meal times and activities during the day.
Mrs Agbamu had a stroke recently and sometimes gets in a mess when feeding herself. The staffs has decided that she should eat alone in her room.Mrs is very unhappy about this but has been told the other residents might not like sitting with her when she spills so much food. Some of the staff call her Mrs. Messey and make fun of her when she tried to feed herself.
A new care assistant called Peggy has asked her colleagues not to make fun of Mrs. Agbamu but when they continued to call her names she reported them to the manager. The other care assistants are now refusing to speak to Peggy and always give her the more unpleasant jobs to do. Peggy is worried that she is being treated unfairly because she is of black African Caribbean origin. She always gets given more jobs to then the others and is on the lowest hourly rate of pay.
Mr Patel also has to eat alone in his room because he uses a wheelchair and this does not fit under the tables easily and takes up more space than a dining room chair. As a result Mr Patel get not socialize with the other residents very often and is becoming isolated and depressed .another resident, Molly,is the only vegetarian in the home and although the cook does prepare her vegetarian meal, Molly does not have a choice of meals like the other residents.

Describe how the legislation
Write a letter to the manager of Green Trees in which you:
1. Outline one piece of relevant legislation and one code of practice or charter for a chosen health or social care environment that aims to promote diversity and individual rights in the home care.
2. Describe how each one would support the rights of residents, staff and visitors in the home and how the legislation and code of practice or charter promote diversity.
3. Assess the possible effects of the discrimination on the individuals concerned. Include the physical, inteletual, emotional and social health, wellbeing of individual.
