These assignments are linked. They involve an essay. Assignment 3 is the introduction and literature review, while Assignment 4 is the body of the essay (including conclusion and references). They are both due on June 15, but if you give me Assignment 3 before then, I will mark it and get it back to you within 5 days, so that you will know that part of your mark. If you do this, you should include your references, at least for anything that you refer to in Assignment 3 (though they will not count as part of the word count for Assignment 3). Both parts must be submitted through Turnitin.
The essay topic is your choice of either 1) or 2)
1) Discuss the state of TESOL/EFL/ESL (i.e. English as a second/foreign language) education in the country of your choice (other than Australia). If you prefer you may discuss the situation of some other language as an L2 in any country, including Australia, e.g. the state of the teaching of Chinese as a second language in the UK or the state of teaching of Arabic as a second language in Australia. However, in order for you to write about such a subject, there must be a reasonable amount of relevant activity going on; thus, for example, you could not write about the state of teaching Uzbek in Australia, because Uzbek is not taught as a second language in any organized way here. Whatever language you choose, you should discuss both theory and practice (and thus there should have been sufficient theoretical discussion of teaching the language involved — again you could not do Uzbek in most countries because there has been no theoretical discussion of the teaching of Uzbek as a second language in most countries).
2) Dicuss the state of history teaching in the country of your choice (other than Australia or the United States). Again, you should discuss both theory and practice.
Your essay should have at least 6 academic references.
