Using material from the handout Power in Negotiation as a framework for analysis, critique the role played by Donna Dubinsky, focusing on what you think she should have done differently to retain/enhance her power Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Q1. Using material from the handout Power in Negotiation as a framework for analysis, critique the role played by Donna Dubinsky, focusing on what you think she should have done differently to retain/enhance her power. (approx 1 to 1 ½ pages plus one or two exhibits that advance your analysis)
Note that the handout is rather dense. It’s a good idea to first glance through Table 10.1, Table 10.2 and Figure 10.1 and 10.2 in the handout and then read the rest of the text. Make sure you use these in your answer to Q1!
Q2. Compare and contrast Donna’s use of her power sources with that of Karen Leary, Lisa Benton and Basil Buzz Hargrove. Who displays the most effective use of power? Why? (approx 1 page)
Q3. Drawing on Q2, what general lessons you would draw regarding how environmental change affects the different faces of power? How can a manager use his/her different power bases effectively in initiating or coping with change? (approx 1 page)

The aim of this sub-task is to produce a briefing paper for the NewViews Board of Directors, who have limited knowledge about BIM, on BIM Implementation Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

This report should focus, in particular, upon information relevant to BIM implementation for a “construction management” organization, such as NewViews. However, it should also provide information on how this fits into the wider context of BIM usage by all project stakeholders (e.g. clients, architects, engineers, surveyors, subcontractors).

The briefing paper should address the following questions:

• What is BIM?
• What are the current industry drivers relating to BIM adoption?
• What are the information requirements from different BIM models?
• What are the opportunities and challenges for BIM adoption by a construction management organization?
• What are the key issues to be considered regarding the impact of BIM adoption upon people within an organization?

The briefing paper should also provide information on the following two areas of BIM implementation:

• BIM use in the pre-construction phase
• BIM use during the construction phase

Your briefing paper should describe and critically evaluate the BIM concept, usage and its impact. It must be supported by academic research, industry best practice examples and analysis of available BIM tools.

For pizza restaurant – Small business project: Business Systems Analysis Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

The purpose of this exercise is to develop an analysis, understanding and design of an overall business work process (‘jobs’). The example will be the main services and underpinning activities related to the core business of a small specialist shop (shoe-shop, wine-shop, pet-shop, cheese-shop, bakery etc) as a system (you are not allowed to use a newsagent, ‘corner-shop’, pharmacy, supermarket, consultancy company or similar – unless you have a specific permission from the unit lecturer). The core business in this case refers to all direct aspects of the core jobs (for example three key jobs that are relevant to the business / main processes) – which includes work having to do with cooking, ordering, organizing products (on shelves etc) and selling or service provision in a specialist shop as a system. You should seek advice from the unit lecturer on your project business ideas. For example to discuss or ‘design’ an ‘EPOS’ system is not acceptable as it is an example of a supporting (technical) system and it is not an example of ‘the’ core business work process (it is also not an example of a Human Activity System).

What should be understood by the term ‘political researcher’? To what extent are undergraduate students ‘researchers’? You should use a range of sources -and will be given credit for making use of what you have learnt as a result of the research workshop Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

The term politics has various different definitions, one of them for everyday understanding of the term may be Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it whether it exists or not, diagnosing it incoherently, and applying the wrong remedy .(Ernest Benn) The term research on the other hand is defined as the systematic, controlled, empirical and critical investigation of hypothetical propositions about presumed relations among natural phenomena. (Kerlinger, 1970) In my words, thus a political researcher is defined as an individual who takes up a step-by-step process of collecting and understanding political information, an example of this may be the research on children soldiers in Africa. A researcher may be a person who questions close to anything, for example how we live, what was the reason for the occurrence of something and how it happened. We can find social researchers everywhere, right from sports teams, schools, colleges, our government or even businesses. Research is not only about questioning or answering but it is about the way we do it. A good researcher has to devote time, effort and must have great understanding of the issue involved.
The question of whether an undergraduate student can be a political researcher is highly debatable. On one hand each one of us individuals can be called a researcher as we all question things on a day to day basis and seek for answers until we find them, whether it is by looking at the internet or reading books or just by means of conversation with one of our friends or professors. But on the contrary as mentioned above a student is not old enough to have put in time and required about of effort into a issue to be actually known as a political researcher. Though his research could be tremendous but only 1% of all undergraduate researchers would be able to do it as well as a well read and experienced researcher.
A political researcher must be experienced and aware about the political events taking place around him .He must have an analytical mind and management skills that are beyond perfection. An undergraduate student may have great amount of knowledge but only an experienced person with a commanding personality would be able to handle the pressures of a political researcher. An undergraduate student needs to take up internships at lower levels and learn to handle pressure in a clear and concise manner. This in my opinion comes only with time and experience. Knowledge from books and lectures gained by an undergraduate student may act as a catalyst so he could perform as a political researcher, but only a practically done job done over a period of time can actually give the required result and experience required by a political researcher to any budding individual. A general place where one could find a political researcher is at the office of a Member of Parliament (MP). A researcher here would be a Jack-of-all-trades. He would have good writing skills, an ability to speak to all classes of people, complete knowledge of the political aspects that need to be dealt with and great amount of common sense and general awareness.

Othello is not only a romantic story of star-crossed lovers; it is a questioning and partial undermining of the social norms of a conservative society in relation to marriage, race and the acceptance of the Other Custom Essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Through the dignified character of Othello, Shakespeare aims to present a new and unconventional hero worthy of respect and inclusion.
Discuss in a essay of 1500 words with reference to direct quotations from the play the positive depiction of Othello (verbal and behavioral) and the spilt opinions of society towards the Other between people willing to accept change and integration such as Brabantio and narrow minded racists such as Iago. In the conclusion, give your personal assessment of the ending in relation to the conventions of tragedy and Shakespeare’s avoidance of imposing a happily-ever after ending in favor of this form of revolutionary love so as not to upset the expectations of the audience.

Learning Outcomes (extracted and slightly adapted from: www.open.ac.uk):

These outcomes represent an initial draft that will need to be refined as the course develops. The course provides opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate the following learning outcomes:

1. Knowledge and understanding:
You are expected to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
1. How English (and other languages) may be used creatively, both in
everyday and more literary texts and practices;
2. The diverse forms that creativity/verbal art may take in English; how these relate to the affordance (being able to do or provide something without unacceptable or disadvantageous consequences) of different modes and media, genres and social/cultural contexts.
3. The role of different participants – authors, designers, audiences (listeners, readers, viewers) – in the construction of ‘artful’ texts and practices;
4. Different theories of creativity/verbal art, including those that focus on
‘local’ interactional functions and those that appeal to more general explanations – socio-psychological, neurological, evolutionary;
5. Different theoretical and analytical approaches to the study of
English/language (including those that privilege texts, those that privilege contextualized language practices, those that insist on a critical approach to texts/practices) and the relative strengths and limitations of these approaches.
6. A wide range of terminology for describing English language texts and
practices.
7. How your learning in different parts of the course may be integrated
according to the central conceptual strands of the course: how meaning is collaboratively produced through spoken, written and multi-modal communication; the relationships between language and context, language and identity, language and social/cultural diversity, language and power.

2. Cognitive skills:
You are also expected to:
1. Critically evaluate the strengths and limitations of particular theoretical
and analytical approaches to the study of language.
2. Apply different approaches to the study and analysis of spoken and written language (including linguistic/textual approaches, ethnographic and practice-based approaches, semiotic and multimodal approaches, literary approaches and critical approaches).
3. Describe and analyze both relevant formal properties of spoken and
written texts and how these are used for a range of purposes by speakers
and writers.
4. Use appropriate terminology to describe and discuss specific theories,
concepts and evidence.
5 Synthesize different points of view, and personal research data in order to reach your own conclusions.
6. Relate theoretical concepts to concrete experience.

3. Key skills:
1. Read academic and other texts critically, identifying and evaluating
positions and arguments.
2. Develop research skills, including the ability to gather, sift and organize material and to evaluate its relevance and significance.
3. Use ICT, including the Internet, to access information.
4. Select and synthesize the main points of information, or of an argument, from a variety of sources.
5. Exercise critical judgment about sources of evidence.
6. Develop good practice in the acknowledgement of source material and in the presentation of bibliographies, using appropriate academic
conventions.
7. Construct a coherent argument, supported by evidence and clearly focused on the topic under discussion.
8. Present written work to a high standard using the appropriate register and style.
9. Evaluate your own writing, and respond to feedback about improving the effectiveness of writing.

Application of number:
10. Understand, interpret and discuss statistical data in the form of graphs, tables and figures.

4. Practical and/or professional skills:
1. Abstract and synthesize information from a variety of sources.
2. Communicate effectively in writing, selecting an appropriate genre, style and register.
3. Make effective use of ICT (such as word processing and the ability to
access, sift and use electronic information).
4. Plan and undertake research.
5. Make independent and analytical judgments.
6. Use and evaluate a variety of means to analyze language data.
7. Evaluate social, political and ethical issues related to language use.
