Length: The length is to be approximately four ? five pages of writing.
Weighting: 35 % of overall mark

Scenario
When working as a health promotion practitioner (or other professional) you may be required to write a project plan that describes exactly what the project or program is about, why it is needed, what it aims to achieve and how it will be done. Every organisation is likely to have its own way of doing this however it is likely that the core components needed are similar, regardless of where you are working.
For the purposes of this assignment you are to imagine that a colleague has asked you to critically review a project plan that they have written. Although this topic is specific, it does not matter if you have limited knowledge, experience or interest in the health topic this project plan is based on. . The purpose of this assignment is for you to demonstrate an ability to critically appraise a health promotion project plan and assess how well the core components are written.
This assignment requires you to demonstrate that you:
? Understand the key components of a health promotion project plan;
? Can critically analyse the core components of a health promotion project plan;
? Can evaluate a project plan using relevant criteria with which you will be provided;
? Can identify the strengths and weaknesses of the project plan, giving credit for new perspectives about the topic that you might add; and
? Can evaluate the contribution of the project to achieving health outcomes in relation to the topic.

You will be provided with a project plan supplied by Queensland Health. You will find this on LearnJCU.
Task : You are to provide your colleague with some written feedback on the project plan. The marking criteria is included on the next page but your critical appraisal should take the following approach and include:
Introduction (10%)
? Briefly introduce the project plan that you are reviewing, including the title and briefly describe the health issue that is addressed by the project.
? Summarise the main components of the project plan
? Identify your purpose in writing the review.
Project plan component analysis (50%)
Analyse the key components of the project plan using the following headings (i.e. make comments on how well done or how poorly done each of these components are:
? Rationale – is there enough information provided in the rationale to justify why this is an important topic that needs to be addressed?
? Aim ? is the overall aim of the project clear?
? Objectives ? are they well written? Are they SMART ? Do they align with the aim ?
? Key performance indicators ? are they realistic and do they match the aims and objectives?
? Strategies ? do they seem appropriate, are they based on evidence?
? Constraints ? have they been realistically identified?
? Project partners/clients/stakeholders ? are they well identified and do they seem appropriate? Is there any organisation/key stakeholder missing ?
? Budget ? have key budget issues been covered?
? Project schedule ? is it realistic and comprehensive?
? Evaluation ? is it comprehensively described and does it allow the key performance indicators to be measured?
? Sustainability ? has this been considered and if so is it realistic?
Conclusion (30%)
? Summary of project plan strengths and weaknesses ? write a brief summary of what you see as the overall strengths and weaknesses of this project plan.
? Make a judgement about the credibility of the project plan.
? Provide some brief recommendations for your colleague as to how the project plan could be strengthened.
