Finite Element Modelling and Analysis of the Jacaranda Square Walkway Structure,Sydneycustom essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

There are important points that will used:
The following Australian Standards must be used in design and modelling of the footbridge:
1. AS/NZS 1170.0-2002 ?Structural design actions. Part 0: General principles?
2. AS/NZS 1170.1-2002 ?Structural design actions. Part 1: Permanent, imposed and other actions?
3. AS/NZS 1170.2-2002 ?Structural design actions. Part 2: Wind actions?
4. AS 4100-1998 ?Steel Structures?

Assumptions and Notes:
1. You will be primarily concerned with modelling the structural steel elements of the walkway structure using Strand7 finite element software.
2. The steel member schedule is given on Drawing S02.
3. The roof is covered with protective mesh. Assume weight of 20 kg/m2.
4. The scale of 1:100 on the engineering drawings of the roof plan (1:50 for elevations) applies to an original large drawing. A different scale will apply when considering the engineering drawings printed on A3 or A4 paper.
5. Since you have been asked to do a design check (or evaluation), the member sizes and all dimensions are to be the same as those in the drawings.
6. Assume material for structural steel components to be Grade 350 with yield stress fy = 350 MPa. The steel bracing rods have the yield stress of 250 MPa.
7. Design checks of critical structural elements must comply with the requirements in AS 4100.

The following steps are recommended in order to successfully complete this assignment:
PART A Layout and Loading:
1. Prepare sketches showing the layout of the structure including its member sizes and dimensions.
2. Determine and calculate the design actions (loads) on the structure from all cases. Use diagrams to indicate the magnitude and directions of these actions (separate diagrams for dead loads, live loads, wind etc).
3. You need only consider the following load cases:
a) Self-weight (SW) of structural and non-structural elements of the roof
3
b) Live Load (LL) on the roof of 0.25 kPa (should be applied as UDL to the main beams or the rafters)
c) Wind Load (WL) uplift on the roof of 0.35 kPa (upward) (should be applied as UDL on the main beams or the rafters)
d) Lateral Wind (LW) (should be applied as UDL of 0.3 kN/m on the columns)
e) Temperature Differential (TD) of 10 degrees Celsius.
4. Prepare for the structural analysis by establishing the appropriate combinations of actions for strength and serviceability limit.

PART B Finite Element Modelling and Linear Static Analysis
1. Develop the analysis model using Strand7 software. Use appropriate types of elements, material properties, element sizes and orientation. It is strongly recommended to use Groups according to the Members Schedule (e.g., Main beam, Rafter, Bracing, Columns, etc) to facilitate handling of various modelling tasks.
2. In Strand7, prepare three separate load cases for Dead Loads, Pedestrian Load, and Wind Load. Before performing the static analysis run, set up the load combinations (Results ? Linear Load Case Combinations) required in the analysis.
3. Interpret the results. Provide explanations of your findings. Provide design check of stresses in several most stressed elements in tension and compression.
4. Prepare separate load cases for train collision loads applied to the piers next to the railway line. Perform static analysis and interpret the results.
5. Each part of the analysis (loads, modelling, results, etc) must be properly documented.

Case Study Presentation custom essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

So far we have completed our studies of chapters 1-8. This report will be a culmination of your studies and an opportunity for you to demonstrate your cumulative knowledge on the various emergency management components.

The required report format will be as follows:

1. Selection of a case study event.

You should select an event that occurred within the last three (3) years, preferably in the United States.

-The event should be sufficiently large to warrant the mobilization of significant Emergency Management response resources. Please try to identify an event that did not receive wide spread publicity. In this section of your review you shall provide a thorough briefing of the event. Include issues such as number of people displaced, injuries, deaths, costs, etc. Should the disaster have been anticipated? Could it have been prevented?

2. Response

– In this section you should provide a complete review of the events preparation and response. In this section please discuss risk assessments (if applicable), planning, mitigation, response and recovery.

3. Assessment

– In this section you will provide your assessment of how this was handled. This should be a critical assessment of all the EM components discussed during the course. Please draw upon your own experiences as well as the text book information.

PRESENTATION:

1. This report shall be six (6) to eight (8) typed (double spaced) pages. This may seem like common sense but just to avoid any confusion the paper should contain 1 inch margins, 12 font. Please feel free to include photos but you must submit a minimum of six pages of narrative.

2. Please cite your sources.

It is very important that this paper demonstrate your knowledge of EM. Simply producing an “after action report” or other previously prepared assessment will result in substantial reduction of earned points.

Synthesize/Apply/Reflect

This is a major assignment for the week wrapping up all the content discussed, read about, etc. The assignment should have the participants evaluate the content and apply it to their own educational settings.

Learning activities which employ visual aids, and assignments that students can evidence their learning visually, are the targets for this assignment.

Assignment Guidelines

You will design a V/S activity, including a mind map, to present to your class. (If you are not presently teaching in the classroom, to do this assignment you can either interview someone who is teaching, ?borrow? someone?s class to do this activity or discuss your ideas with a colleague and predict the results.) This assignment should be 1-2 pages in length. The following information should be contained in the assignment:

State the content topic you have selected.
Create and present a mind map that you will use on this topic to illustrate the effectiveness of using a visual to share information. Focus on students realizing the power of a visual presentation.
Design a lesson in which you will have students either work individually, or in a group, to create a colorful mind map to evidence their learning. They should include a title in the heading. The individual, or group, will then present their mind map to the class.
After each presentation the teacher will ask the class:
What did you like about this mind map?
What did you learn from this mind map?
What suggestions do you have for creating mind maps in the future?
Reflect on this lesson mentioning what you learned, students? reactions to the task, suggestions for future lessons and extensions or enhancements to this type of activity.

Questions to guide analysis and discussion

1. What are the defining characteristics of this approach?
•What are the research objectives of the authors of this approach? What
kind of knowledge are they attempting to create with their research?
•What kind of questions would frame this kind of research? What aspects of
design or history are important to authors of this approach?
• How are designed artefacts represented in this approach? How might this
representation effect the way audiences understand or think about
design?

2. What are the some aspects of this passage that I don’t yet understand?
•What particular terms, ideas, or arguments am I finding it difficult to make
sense of?
•What might require additional research in order for me to understand?

3. What opinion do I have of Fry’s arguments?
• Can I identify particular claims or propositions?
• What do I think about these claims? • Are the claims supported by
reasons and/or evidence?
• Given what I know, am I in a good position to make a judgement of this
argument, or, what additional information do I need to know in order to
make a better evaluation?
• Does the relationship between claims and reasons make for a strong or
persuasive argument?
• What questions remain unanswered for me?

4. What other features do I notice about this passage? For example, writing
style, tone, language, structure. How does this effect my understanding or

Accommodation Industry Analysis custom essay

[meteor_slideshow slideshow=”arp1″]

Objectives
This assessment task relates to the course learning outcomes numbers 1, 2, 3 and 7.

Details
Choosing accommodation can be a really complicated decision, subject to many competing influences. Do I
buy that 4 bedroom house that will take the next 30 years to pay off? Would I rent a 2 bedroom unit? Shall I
share an apartment with my friends, or some strangers? Is the house in a safe suburb? Is it close to public
transportation, shopping centres, childcare services, hospitals, gyms, cafes, or the university? Do I want this
furniture? …… What is it that affects this decision and makes it different for each of us? This assessment task
requires you to look at the accommodation choices of three people, and to present an analytical reasoning for
differences between them using the theories of decision making, motivation and values, and the self
(including basic demographics).

a) Create a list of 5 different accommodation options reflecting a variety of styles available (e.g., luxury
apartment vs. economy unit; beach house vs. country hobby farm, etc). You might want to refer to real estate
websites, newspaper classified ads, or campus message boards while developing this list. Be specific –
renting a three bedroom ocean view apartment in Bondi in Sydney (rather than just saying renting an
apartment in general); sharing a two bedroom townhouse with a TAFE student near the Brisbane CBD;
buying a three bedroom bushland house under Mount Archer in Rockhampton. You may wish to include
indicative renting/selling prices or pictures of the accommodation options you have chosen to include.

b) Interview 3 different individuals and get them to rank the 5 accommodation options in terms of what they
would be most and least likely to choose. Provide a summary of how each respondent felt about each of the
accommodation options when explaining their rankings. Make sure you interview quite different people in
terms of age, gender, culture etc to provide more colourful findings and analysis.

c) ANALYSE and COMPARE the responses of your participants using theory from:

i. Motivation

ii. Values

iii. Self and self identity

What is it about each respondent that best characterises how their preferences were ranked? What were the
major influences causing differences between your participants?

d) Use your findings (supported by theory) to provide recommendations to a hypothetical marketer of ANY
ONE of the accommodation options you discussed –what are the characteristics of their likeliest customer
and how might they best attract them?

You MUST support your analysis with theory in the form of journal articles from reputable sources. A
MINIMUM of 10 – 15 references would be expected.

WARNING: Selection of literary support from Google; Wikipedia; www.NetMBA.com;
www.marketingteacher.com, www.tutor2u.com and so on will be treated very negatively. These ARE NOT
appropriate sources for your academic assignments and use of them is NOT acceptable.
